The President of Rotary International, Francesco Arezzo, has commissioned an ultra-modern sanitation and mechanized water facility for Brofoyedu M/A School, marking a significant milestone in efforts to improve hygiene, health, and the overall learning environment for pupils and staff.

The ceremony, held on the school premises, drew a distinguished gathering that included the District 9104 Governor of Rotary, Nana Yaa Pokuaa Siriboe; senior Rotarians; community leaders; parents; teachers; and pupils. The project, spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Kumasi, is aimed at addressing longstanding challenges related to inadequate toilet and water facilities at the school.

Commissioning the project, Mr. Arezzo expressed profound satisfaction with the commitment demonstrated by the local Rotary Clubs and the Brofoyedu community. He emphasized that sustainable community development can only be achieved through strong collaboration and shared ownership.

“It is a great pleasure and honour for me to be here today to witness what the local Rotary Clubs have been able to accomplish in this school,” he stated. “I am particularly delighted to be here not only with the Governor and other senior leaders of the District, but also—and most importantly—with the leaders of this community.”

He underscored the importance of unity in executing impactful projects, noting that initiatives undertaken without community involvement often fail to achieve lasting significance. According to him, the success of the Brofoyedu project reflects a model partnership between Rotary and the beneficiary community.

“When we work together, we create impact that is lasting and meaningful. Together, we can achieve far more than any of us could on our own,” he added.

Mr. Arezzo expressed particular joy at seeing the large number of pupils present at the ceremony, describing them as the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers of the nation. He reiterated that Rotary’s investments in education and sanitation are ultimately investments in the future of society.

The District 9104 Governor, Nana Yaa Pokuaa Siriboe, explained that the intervention followed an appeal from the school authorities, who had raised concerns about the absence of adequate and hygienic toilet facilities, as well as reliable access to potable water. She noted that the Rotary Club of Kumasi responded promptly to the urgent need to create a safer and more dignified learning environment.

According to her, access to proper sanitation and clean water is fundamental to quality education, as it directly influences the health, attendance, and academic performance of learners. She stressed that the newly constructed water closet facility and mechanized water system would significantly reduce water-related illnesses, promote good hygiene practices, and restore dignity to both pupils and teachers.

Nana Yaa Pokuaa Siriboe urged the school authorities and the Brofoyedu community to adopt a strong culture of maintenance to ensure the sustainability and longevity of the facilities. She emphasized that consistent care and responsible management would allow the infrastructure to serve its intended purpose for many years.

She further assured the school of Rotary’s continued commitment to educational development, revealing plans to support the institution with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources to enhance teaching and learning and equip pupils with essential digital skills.

On behalf of the school, the Headmistress of Brofoyedu M/A Junior High School, Mrs. Patient Acquah, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club of Kumasi and Rotary International for what she described as a timely and life-changing intervention. She noted that the lack of adequate sanitation and water facilities had posed serious challenges, affecting both the comfort of pupils and the smooth conduct of academic activities.

Mrs. Acquah assured the Rotary leadership that the school, in collaboration with community stakeholders, would take full responsibility for maintaining the facilities to ensure their effective and sustainable use.

The commissioning of the ultra-modern sanitation and mechanized water facility underscores Rotary International’s unwavering commitment to service, education, and community development. The project stands as a testament to the transformative power of partnership and collective action in improving educational infrastructure and safeguarding the well-being of schoolchildren.
