On Saturday, August 9, 2025, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, showed commendable leadership and humanity when she came across a road accident on the busy Koforidua–Adukrom highway while traveling to an official engagement at Odumase Krobo.

The accident occurred at Mile 44, a key junction linking several major towns in the Eastern Region. The vehicle involved was a Toyota Hiace minibus with registration number GT 5160-17, traveling from Ashaiman to Koforidua. According to eyewitnesses, the minibus veered off the road, causing a frightening ordeal for the passengers on board.

Although no fatalities were reported, several occupants suffered minor injuries and required urgent medical treatment. Mrs. Awatey wasted no time, ordering her convoy to stop and immediately joining the rescue efforts.
