I am calling on key authorities including EOCO, the Minister of Education, the CID Boss, District Education Directors nationwide, the Ghana Private Schools Association, and GNACOPS to conduct a thorough and massive investigation into certain private schools in Ghana, particularly in Greater Accra. The aim is to address glaring irregularities and potentially arrest some owners for unlawful treatment of their employees. Many private schools in Accra fail to remit SSNIT contributions for their teachers, with some still resorting to outdated “table top” payments in this 21st century. Additionally, some private school owners withhold appointment letters from staff, likely as a means of exploitation.

I specifically appeal to EOCO Boss Mr. Reymond Acha and the aforementioned institutions to undertake comprehensive investigations, visiting these schools to uncover the truth about their operations. Teachers and workers in some private schools are treated poorly, akin to being more than slaves, facing abysmal conditions. I urge the Minister of Education and relevant bodies to take proactive steps, ensuring that investments in private education are coupled with fair treatment of workers.

This plea comes from a Concerned Teacher and Educationist, Ɔpanyin Wireko, highlighting the urgent need for reform and protection of educators’ rights in Ghana’s private schools.
