REV. SIMMS KWAME APPIAH-KUBI LAUNCHES COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARDS TO REKINDLE GHANA’S COMMUNAL SPIRIT

Rev. (Hon.) Simms Kwame Appiah-Kubi, Chief Executive Officer of the Kaakyire Kwame Appiah Foundation and celebrated broadcast journalist with Silver FM 98.3 MHz, has launched the Community Impact Awards (CIA), a national initiative aimed at reviving the spirit of communalism in Ghana and promoting sustainable grassroots development.
In a media interview on Monday, November 17, 2025, Rev. Appiah-Kubi expressed concern about the gradual erosion of mutual support in many Ghanaian communities. He explained that the increasing culture of individualism is slowing the country’s progress, undermining unity, and weakening social cohesion. He emphasized that restoring the communal spirit is essential for collective growth, national development, and the wellbeing of society as a whole.
“The decline in our communal spirit is not merely a social issue; it directly affects development at every level. Communities thrive when people support each other, and when that bond weakens, progress becomes slower and less inclusive,” Rev. Appiah-Kubi stated.
The Community Impact Awards have been established to recognize and celebrate individuals whose exceptional service and contributions have brought tangible improvements to their communities. According to Rev. Appiah-Kubi, the initiative seeks to honor unsung heroes whose work in education, health, sanitation, social welfare, and security has positively transformed lives. By highlighting these efforts, the awards aim to inspire a culture of voluntary service and active participation in community development across the country.
Based in Nerebehi in the Ashanti Region, the Kaakyire Kwame Appiah Foundation is a community-driven, non-profit organization committed to transforming rural communities. Over the years, the Foundation has implemented numerous programs focused on youth empowerment, poverty alleviation, educational support, humanitarian aid, and broader community development. The launch of the Community Impact Awards represents a continuation of its mission to create lasting positive change and strengthen grassroots structures.
Rev. Appiah-Kubi stressed that the success of the awards depends on the active support of Ghanaians, businesses, development partners, financial institutions, and NGOs. He called on the public to join hands with the Foundation in restoring Ghana’s communal values and fostering development that is both inclusive and sustainable.
He further announced that nominations for the inaugural Community Impact Awards are now open. Individuals who meet the criteria for recognition can submit nominations or request further information by contacting 024 456 0027.
The Community Impact Awards are expected to become a key platform for celebrating selfless service, inspiring community engagement, and encouraging unity and collective responsibility, ultimately reinforcing the foundational spirit of Ghanaian society.
