Residents, Unit Committee, and Assembly Member Appeal for Improved Telecommunications Services

Residents of Manso Kumpese and Nyankomase, alongside their Unit Committee members and the Assembly Member in the Amansie South District, have jointly called on telecommunication companies and government agencies to urgently address the persistent lack of reliable mobile network coverage in their communities.

The appeal was made during a recent community gathering held to discuss developmental challenges affecting the area. Participants expressed deep concern over how the absence of stable telecommunications infrastructure continues to hamper education, business activities, security, and access to emergency services.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Stephen Nsiah Kesse, the Assembly Member, highlighted the critical role that communication plays in modern development and the daily lives of the people.

“In this digital era, having access to reliable mobile network services is not a luxury, but a necessity. Unfortunately, our communities remain disconnected from this vital service. Students struggle to access online learning materials, farmers cannot contact buyers, and many residents face difficulties sending or receiving money through mobile money platforms due to poor connectivity,” he said.

Hon. Kesse added that the lack of network infrastructure severely limits economic growth and social progress in the area, making it difficult for the community to participate fully in Ghana’s broader national development agenda.

Several residents who spoke to the media confirmed the Assembly Member’s observations. They recounted challenges such as traveling several kilometers to access network signals, delays in receiving important calls, and an inability to transact mobile money payments, all of which negatively impact their livelihoods.

One resident noted, “The mobile network here is so poor that sometimes even emergency calls don’t go through. This puts lives at risk.”

The Unit Committee members echoed these concerns, urging telecommunication service providers — notably MTN Ghana, Vodafone Ghana, and AirtelTigo — to urgently expand their coverage to the area. They stressed their willingness to collaborate by providing land and any other necessary support to facilitate the installation of network poles and towers.

“We appeal to the telecom companies to recognize the potential of our communities and invest in the infrastructure needed to connect us to the rest of the country,” said a Unit Committee Chairperson.

In addition to the private sector, the community has also appealed to the National Communications Authority (NCA) and relevant government ministries to prioritize rural and underserved areas like Manso Kumpese and Nyankomase in their telecommunications development plans.

Community leaders believe that improved network coverage will not only enhance communication but also open up opportunities for education, health services, agricultural marketing, and financial inclusion.

The call for better telecommunications comes amidst ongoing efforts by residents to improve their environment and livelihoods, including recent massive clean-up exercises aimed at enhancing sanitation and community health.

Hon. Kesse concluded with a hopeful message: “Our communities are ready to develop. We have shown our commitment through various initiatives. Now, we urge the government and telecommunication operators to step up and provide us with the connectivity that we desperately need.”

Additionally, residents emphasized the urgent need for basic amenities such as separate toilet facilities for both males and females, to prevent children from resorting to open defecation in the bush, as well as the extension of electricity to new residential sites to improve living conditions.
