The Queenmother of the Tantra Traditional Area, Naa Odarley Djoomo I, has made a passionate appeal for support towards the construction of a fire station in the community. Her call comes ahead of the 2025 Homowo Festival celebrations, which are expected to attract hundreds of residents and visitors on Saturday.

Speaking in an engagement with the media, Naa Odarley Djoomo I stressed the urgent need for a dedicated fire post to serve the growing community of Tantra and its surrounding areas. She noted that the absence of a fire station poses a serious threat to the safety and well-being of residents, especially in times of emergency.
According to the Queenmother, the Tantra Traditional Council is ready to release a sizable tract of land to facilitate the establishment of the fire station. However, she emphasized that the successful execution of the project will depend heavily on support from various stakeholders, particularly Tantra natives living abroad, philanthropists, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the Government of Ghana.
“This is a pressing issue. We cannot afford to wait until disaster strikes before taking action. The Traditional Council is prepared to allocate the needed land, but we need support — financial and technical — to make this vision a reality,” she said.
Naa Odarley Djoomo I also used the opportunity to appeal to the Ghana Police Service to step up security patrols in the Tantra area. She explained that while the community has remained largely peaceful, consistent police presence is essential to maintaining law and order, especially during festive periods such as Homowo.
“The peace and safety of our people must be a top priority. We are appealing to the police hierarchy to deploy more personnel to patrol Tantra regularly, especially as we approach the Homowo celebration,” she urged.
Known for her commitment to the welfare of her people, Naa Odarley Djoomo I has long been involved in various philanthropic activities. Under her leadership, the Traditional Council has organized several free health screenings for residents, supported the renewal of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards, and facilitated the registration of new members onto the scheme.
She has also championed projects aimed at improving access to clean and safe drinking water, ensuring that residents, particularly women and children, no longer struggle to get potable water for their daily use.
In her closing remarks, the Queenmother called for peace, unity, and togetherness among the people of Tantra and the Ga State. She encouraged citizens to put aside differences and work collaboratively for the continued progress of the community.
“As we prepare to celebrate Homowo, I urge all our people to come together in peace and harmony. Let us unite to build a stronger and more resilient Tantra community,” Naa Odarley Djoomo I concluded.
The Queenmother’s appeal has already begun generating interest among residents and stakeholders, with many praising her dedication to development and her proactive efforts to address the community’s challenges.
