Pupils Rejoice as MTN Ghana Donates Uniforms to Katinguli and Baale Schools — Part of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care Initiative

In a remarkable show of corporate social responsibility, MTN Ghana has brought smiles to the faces of pupils at Katinguli RC and Baale LA Primary Schools in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region by donating new school uniforms to them. The generous donation forms part of MTN’s annual “21 Days of Y’ello Care” initiative, which is dedicated to supporting underserved communities through various volunteer-driven activities.
This year’s campaign is themed “Connecting at the Root, Connecting Communities Through the Use of Digital Tools,” with a strong focus on digital inclusion and community development. While the broader program promotes digital connectivity, the donation of uniforms underscores MTN Ghana’s holistic approach to supporting education and enhancing the dignity and confidence of pupils in rural and deprived areas.
Speaking during the donation exercise, MTN staff emphasized their commitment to not only driving digital transformation but also addressing the pressing physical needs of schools and students. The pupils, many of whom previously attended school in worn-out clothing, expressed joy and excitement at receiving brand-new uniforms — a gesture they said would boost their morale and improve attendance.
Headteachers of both beneficiary schools, Mr. Mohammed Bawa Ziblim of Katinguli RC Primary and Mr. Dauda Shani of Baale LA Primary, expressed profound gratitude to MTN Ghana for the timely intervention. They noted that, although the uniforms would go a long way in supporting students, the schools still face major infrastructural challenges. Both heads made a passionate appeal for support to replace makeshift classroom structures with permanent ones, as pupils are currently compelled to study under trees or in temporary shelters.
“Most of our pupils sit under trees during lessons, which disrupts learning whenever the weather changes,” said Mr. Ziblim. “We are pleading with MTN Ghana and other benevolent organizations to come to our aid by helping us build proper classrooms.”
Community members, including Mr. Uboi Baabe, a respected resident of the area, also lauded MTN Ghana for its continuous investment in rural education and joined the call for more infrastructural support. “This donation is a clear sign that MTN Ghana cares about the future of our children,” Mr. Baabe said. “We hope this will mark the beginning of a lasting partnership to improve education in our community.”
The “21 Days of Y’ello Care” program has, over the years, become one of the most impactful volunteerism campaigns in Ghana, with MTN employees dedicating their time and resources to improving lives across the country. This year’s outreach to Katinguli and Baale schools reinforces the company’s belief that empowering communities — especially at the grassroots level — is crucial for national development.
As MTN Ghana continues its activities under the 2025 edition of the Y’ello Care program, communities like Katinguli and Baale remain hopeful that such gestures will be sustained and extended to meet more pressing needs in the educational sector.
