PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: TEMPORARY SHUTDOWN OF BAREKESE WATER TREATMENT PLANT

 

The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Ashanti Region, wishes to inform the general public, especially residents of Kumasi and its surrounding areas, about a scheduled shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant from Monday, March 17th to Wednesday, March 19th, 2025.

Reason for Shutdown

This temporary shutdown is to facilitate the installation of new interconnection pipelines and foot valves at strategic locations, including the Suame Roundabout. The upgrade is expected to significantly enhance water supply to the Kumasi Metropolis and surrounding communities.

Affected Areas

Communities that will experience water supply interruptions during this period include:

  • Offinso
  • The entire Kumasi Metropolis
  • Environs of Kumasi

Preparation & Advisory

GWL urges all residents, institutions, and businesses, particularly hospitals and schools, to store an adequate supply of water ahead of the shutdown period.

While GWL acknowledges the inconvenience this may cause, the company assures the public that its engineering team will work diligently to complete the works within the stipulated timeframe and restore water supply promptly.
