A political pressure group made up of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency organizers and executives, operating under the name “Strikers for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia” (Strikers 4 DMB), has taken a strong swipe at President John Dramani Mahama and his administration for what they describe as a total failure in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
At a media briefing today, the Chief Director of Operations for the group, Mr. Seth Kofi Osei Kissi, alleged that President Mahama has “failed woefully” in addressing the galamsey menace that continues to ravage the country’s environment and water bodies.

According to him, the President’s inability to deal decisively with the problem stems from the fact that “many members of the ruling NDC are deeply involved in the illegal mining business.”
The group challenged President Mahama to demonstrate genuine leadership by taking firm action against party members allegedly engaged in galamsey rather than shifting blame or making excuses.
Mr. Seth Kissi further commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his leadership qualities, describing him as “a unifier and a grassroots mobiliser” capable of bringing the nation together to completely eradicate galamsey.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Dr. Bawumia’s vision, stating that they would leverage their rich political experience and nationwide networks to advance his 2028 campaign agenda and contribute to a sustainable fight against illegal mining.
