President John Dramani Mahama has issued an apology to the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the delayed invitation to participate in the ongoing National Education Forum in Ho.
Addressing stakeholders at the forum, President Mahama acknowledged the oversight, emphasizing that it was not an intentional exclusion. He assured the religious bodies of his administration’s commitment to inclusive dialogue on education reforms and national development.
“I sincerely apologize to the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the delay in extending an invitation to this important forum. Their contributions to Ghana’s education system are invaluable, and it was never our intention to exclude them,” President Mahama stated.
The National Education Forum, currently taking place in Ho, serves as a platform for evaluating Ghana’s education system and discussing policy recommendations to enhance quality and accessibility. The forum has gathered key stakeholders, including government officials, educationists, civil society groups, and religious organizations.
The Christian Council and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference have played a pivotal role in the country’s education sector, managing some of Ghana’s most prestigious schools. Their absence at the initial stages of the forum raised concerns about the inclusivity of the discussions.
Following President Mahama’s apology, representatives from both religious organizations expressed their appreciation for the clarification and reaffirmed their commitment to contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s education development.
The forum is expected to produce key policy recommendations that will guide future education reforms, ensuring quality, equity, and sustainability in the sector.
