The Afram Plains yesterday witnessed a historic milestone in Ghana’s agricultural development as President John Dramani Mahama, alongside the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, officially launched the country’s first-ever Farmer Service Center in the region.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which drew government officials, traditional leaders, and local farmers, marked the commencement of a landmark project aimed at transforming agricultural productivity and strengthening food security in one of Ghana’s key farming belts.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Eric Opoku emphasized the significance of the initiative. He explained that the Farmer Service Center is designed to provide timely and accessible support services to farmers, including technical guidance, quality input supply, and advisory services to enhance crop yields and sustainable farming practices.
“This center represents a pivotal step towards empowering our farmers,” Hon. Opoku said. “It will ensure that our hardworking men and women in agriculture have the resources and expertise they need to increase productivity, diversify crops, and contribute meaningfully to national food security.”

President Mahama, in his remarks, reiterated the government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture and improving the livelihoods of rural communities. He highlighted that the facility will serve as a model for similar initiatives nationwide, fostering innovation, resilience, and economic growth in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The Afram Plains Farmer Service Center is expected to provide a comprehensive platform for knowledge sharing, training, and efficient distribution of farm inputs. By bridging gaps in access to agricultural support, the project aims to create more opportunities for farmers to thrive while contributing to the nation’s overarching goal of sustainable and inclusive agricultural development.

The launch has been widely praised by local stakeholders, who view the initiative as a transformative step in equipping farmers with the tools and expertise needed to achieve higher productivity, strengthen food security, and ensure sustainable livelihoods across the Afram Plains.
