Poor Road Network Hindering Development in Sekyere Afram Plains – Drobonso Chief

The Chief of Drobonso, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw, has raised serious concerns about the poor state of road infrastructure in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region, describing it as the single most critical challenge hindering development and the welfare of residents.

According to the traditional ruler, the district continues to suffer from deplorable road conditions, with more than 60 communities virtually cut off from reliable transportation. He noted that the only tarred road linking Kumawu to Drobonso is grossly insufficient to serve the transportation needs of the district, leaving residents, farmers and traders to endure severe hardship, particularly during the rainy season.

Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw made these remarks during the Miss Drobonso Beauty Pageant 2025, an event that attracted traditional leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders from across the district. He used the platform to appeal to the Government of Ghana to urgently prioritise the improvement of road infrastructure in the area, especially the tarring of the Drobonso–Jeduako road and other critical feeder roads.

The chief explained that the poor road network continues to negatively affect the movement of people and the transportation of agricultural produce to major markets, leading to post-harvest losses and increased cost of living. He added that the situation has also discouraged private investment and slowed socio-economic development in the predominantly agrarian district.

Beyond road infrastructure, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw also drew attention to challenges facing education in the district. He appealed for the completion of the dormitory block at the Drobonso Community Day Senior High School, stressing that the lack of boarding facilities limits access to secondary education for students from remote communities.

In addition, the chief called for the establishment of a Nursing and Midwifery Training School in the Sekyere Afram Plains District to improve healthcare delivery and create opportunities for young people pursuing careers in the health sector. He noted that such an institution would help address the shortage of health professionals in the area while contributing to local economic growth.

The Drobonso chief urged government and relevant stakeholders to give urgent attention to the district’s infrastructural and social needs, emphasising that sustainable national development can only be achieved when rural and underserved communities are adequately supported.
