Police saves armed robber from angry mob

But for the swift intervention of police at Pemenase and Konongo, one Akwasi Peter would have been lynched by an angry mob at Bomfa Achiase in the Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti region for attempted robbery on a lady.
Suspect Akwasi Peter, 25 and an ex-convict is alleged to have been involved in series of arm robberies in the area but lucked eluded him this time when he climbed a ceiling to robbed a lady on Monday, August 1 in her room.

The lady whose identity was not known at the time of filing this report, sneaked outside and made a distress call which drew attention of some residents.
Speaking to Kessben FM’s reporter who was at the scene, when the suspect saw the looming danger, he jumped from the ceiling and quickly boarded an incoming motorcycle to the next community.
However, one resident whose name was given as Osamanpa, who was also with a motorcycle gave the suspect a hot chase.
On reaching a section of the road he drove passed them and alerted some people who also decided to exterminate the suspect.


But the police from Pemenase who arrived at the scene prevented the mob from handing instant justice to Akwasi Peter.
According to Mallam Yahaya, when the news of the arrest of the suspect spread to the community, they rushed to the scene and tried to get him from the police.
The police from Pemenase had to call reenforcement from Konongo before they were able to save the suspect.
“Some robbers robbed three store owners of their money few days ago at gun point. We wanted to kill him to deter others, if not the intervention these policemen”, Osamanpa is alleged to have said this.
He was put with a police pick-up vehicle and sped off from the scene.
