Philanthropist Who Donated GH₵65,000 Phototherapy Machine Returns with More Support for Nkawie-Toase Hospital

The Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly has once again received vital support from philanthropist and businessman Mr. Akwasi Agyemang and his wife, owners of Man Man Company Limited. The couple, who last year donated a GH₵65,000 Fire Fly phototherapy machine to the hospital’s Mother and Baby Unit (MBU), have returned with another generous donation valued at GH₵10,000.

The new donation, presented on Friday, November 21, 2025, included baby diapers, wipes, mosquito nets, assorted beverages, bottled water, and the settlement of medical bills for selected mothers who struggled to pay. The gesture formed part of activities marking this year’s Preterm Day celebration observed by the MBU.

The phototherapy machine donated last year remains one of the most essential and uncommon neonatal care equipment in the region. It is used for treating babies with severe jaundice—a condition that often requires urgent intervention to prevent complications.

Medical experts define preterm babies as those born alive before the completion of 37 weeks of pregnancy, a category that requires specialized care and constant monitoring.

Receiving the items on behalf of hospital management, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer Mrs. Catherine Agyemang expressed deep appreciation to the couple for their continuous investment in quality healthcare delivery. She revealed that the installation of the Fire Fly phototherapy machine has drastically reduced the unit’s reliance on Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and other tertiary facilities.

According to Mrs. Agyemang, “babies are no longer being transferred due to the unavailability of essential equipment,” adding that the device has saved many newborns who would otherwise face complications from severe jaundice.

She called on other well-meaning individuals, corporate institutions, and community groups to emulate the exemplary generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Agyemang, stressing that sustained external support is crucial to improving maternal and neonatal healthcare outcomes.
