Businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Joshua Agyei, has brought immense relief to the people of Wamasi and Kɔkɔtenten in the  Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region by constructing a five-kilometer road that links the two communities. For more than a decade, residents had endured deplorable road conditions that made movement difficult in both the rainy and dry seasons. The poor state of the stretch had also affected economic activities, with drivers charging unapproved fares due to the difficulties in navigating the road.

Mr. Agyei, who hails from Wamasi, said in an interview with the media that he felt obliged to step in because of the hardship his people had faced. He revealed that the project cost him millions of Ghana cedis, but explained that he was inspired to do it because God had blessed his business and made it flourish, and it was only right to give back to the community where he was born. According to him, his gesture is to ensure that traders, farmers, school children, and residents can move freely without unnecessary burdens. He, however, appealed to government to come and tar the road to make it more durable and sustainable.

Mr. Agyei noted that this is not the first time he has supported communities, as he has undertaken numerous projects in the past, including the construction of school facilities and assistance to the needy. He stressed that his commitment to development is rooted in gratitude and service to humanity. He also used the occasion to urge other businessmen to invest in the communities they operate in as part of their corporate social responsibility so that local residents can feel the impact of their success.

Touching on the environment, Mr. Agyei called on government to intensify efforts in regulating the mining sector, pointing out the need to distinguish between legal operators and illegal miners whose activities are destroying rivers and water bodies. He assured the people of Wamasi and Kɔkɔtenten that he would continue to support them with more developmental projects in the future.

Residents of the two communities expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Agyei, describing the road as a huge relief. They explained that for years they had suffered through high transport fares and poor accessibility, especially during the rainy season, and the intervention has brought hope and comfort. They also appealed to government to tar the road to ensure its durability and to complement the efforts of their son, Mr. Joshua Agyei, who has demonstrated true leadership and love for his people.
