Paediatric Oncology Unit at Kumasi South Hospital Recognises OTEC FM’s Kwame Agyenim Boateng for Life-Saving Media Advocacy
The Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Ashanti Regional Hospital at Atonsu, widely known as Kumasi South Hospital, has recognised OTEC FM journalist and Public Relations Officer of the Kofi Job Foundation, Mr. Kwame Agyenim Boateng, for his exceptional media advocacy in support of children battling cancer.

The honour, presented in the form of a citation, acknowledges Mr. Agyenim Boateng’s tireless efforts in using responsible journalism and compelling human-interest storytelling to draw public attention to childhood cancer and the urgent needs of affected patients. His work has played a key role in mobilising financial and material support for children undergoing treatment, helping to ease the burden on families struggling with the high cost of care.

The citation was presented on Monday, January 12, 2026, by Paediatric Oncologist Dr. Alimatu Salam on behalf of the Paediatric Oncology Unit. Presenting the citation, Dr. Salam expressed the unit’s deep appreciation for Mr. Agyenim Boateng’s commitment to amplifying the voices of vulnerable children and translating media coverage into tangible support that directly impacts patient care.

She noted that the collaboration between the hospital, the media, and philanthropic organisations such as the Kofi Job Foundation has proven invaluable in improving awareness, encouraging early reporting, and generating assistance for children living with cancer. According to her, such advocacy complements the clinical work of health professionals and contributes significantly to better outcomes for patients.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Agyenim Boateng expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Paediatric Oncology Unit and management of Kumasi South Hospital for the recognition, describing it as a call to greater service rather than a personal achievement. He attributed the honour to the mentorship, guidance, and unwavering support of the founder of the Kofi Job Foundation, Mr. Kofi Gyebi Job, and his wife, Mrs. Esther Gyebi.

He reaffirmed his commitment to humanitarian advocacy, pledging to continue using his platform at OTEC FM to highlight the struggles of children with cancer and other vulnerable groups, while mobilising individuals, institutions, and corporate bodies to support lifesaving interventions.
The citation, in part, read: “In Honour of Mr. Kwame Agyenim Boateng… Your dedication to community service and media advocacy helped connect critical resources with those in need. Ayekoo!!!”

Through his work with OTEC FM, Mr. Agyenim Boateng has consistently highlighted the philanthropic initiatives of the Kofi Job Foundation, particularly its focus on healthcare support and assistance to vulnerable populations. His advocacy has helped bridge the gap between patients in need and benevolent donors, making a meaningful difference in the lives of many children suffering from childhood cancer.

The recognition by the Paediatric Oncology Unit of Kumasi South Hospital underscores the vital role of the media in healthcare advocacy and reaffirms the power of ethical journalism in driving social change, saving lives, and restoring hope to families facing some of life’s most difficult challenges.
