Over 100 Widows Receive Relief as Ambitious Ladies Roll Out Annual Support Programme in Asuofua
More than 100 widows in Asuofua in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region have received much-needed relief following a humanitarian intervention by Ambitious Ladies, a women-led social advocacy group committed to supporting vulnerable members of society.

The donation exercise, which was held over the weekend at the Asuofua Lorry Terminal, formed part of the group’s annual flagship support programme aimed at easing the economic and health challenges faced by widows, particularly those living in poverty.
As part of the initiative, each beneficiary received a five-kilogramme bag of rice, canned sardines, sunflower oil and other essential food items. In addition, the widows were presented with a sphygmomanometer, commonly known as a blood pressure monitor, to promote regular health monitoring, especially among the elderly beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the President of Ambitious Ladies, Mrs Gifty Osei Adu-Gyimfi, highlighted the difficulties many widows encounter after the loss of their husbands, noting that a significant number are left without reliable sources of income and access to basic healthcare.
“Many widows, especially the elderly and those who depended entirely on their husbands, are left in very difficult situations. It is our duty as a society to show compassion and provide support that will help them live with dignity,” she said.

Mrs Adu-Gyimfi expressed satisfaction with the successful organisation of the programme and the appreciation shown by the beneficiaries. She reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to initiatives that directly improve the lives of vulnerable people, particularly widows and orphans, and assured that Ambitious Ladies would continue to roll out similar interventions in other communities across Ghana and beyond.

She also commended the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Osei Kwaku Michael, for his commitment to the welfare of underprivileged individuals and for supporting the initiative through effective collaboration.
In his remarks, Hon. Osei Kwaku Michael described the donation as a major relief to the widows, noting that the support would go a long way to ease their daily struggles, especially in the current economic climate.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for the gesture. Sixty-eight-year-old Madam Adwoa Anane said the food items and blood pressure monitor were “very dear” to them, adding that such assistance brings hope and comfort to widows who often feel neglected. Another beneficiary, Madam Comfort, said the donation was something she could not easily afford due to financial constraints and thanked Ambitious Ladies for the timely intervention.

The annual support programme by Ambitious Ladies once again underscored the vital role of community-based organisations in complementing government efforts to provide social protection and improve the quality of life of vulnerable populations at the grassroots level.
