OUR ACTIONS HAVE LED TO THE DESTRUCTION of OVER 50% OF OUR FOREST Reserves – Ogyeahoho

 

 

The President of the National House of Chiefs and paramount chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso traditional area, Osenkesie Akankanfo Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi ll speaking during the ceremonial tree planting held at the premises of the Bibiani municipal hospital has said our activations as Ghanaians especially politicians, traditional authorities, farmers, and miners have led to the massive destruction of over 50% of our natural forest and that has led to the excessive climate change we are experiencing of late .

 

Ogyeahoho was of the view that majority of cocoa farmers have regretted given out their cocoa farm lands to illegal miners at expense of keeping the lands for cocoa production, a situation he described as worrisome .
Ogyeahoho again lamented over the rate at which the forest reserve, water bodies, animals have been destroyed.
He expressed his heart felt thanks to the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo for the Green Ghana Day initiative, he called on all and sundry to commit themselves to the tree planting exercise for our own good.

The General Manager for Mensin Gold Bibiani Limited, Mr Samuel Kwasi Takyi who also led a team from the mine to the ceremonial tree planting at the Bibiani municipal hospital supported the Green Ghana Day Celebration with 16 thousand seedlings, wheel barrows 10 and watering can 20 . He said the mine activity in a way destroys trees so they have measures in line with their work to do reclamation and tree planting in oder to restore the land to its previous state after mining , this according to Mr Samuel Takyi compels them to support every tree planting project so they were happy when the President introduced Green Ghana Day Celebration.

The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Forest Service Division Manager, Mr Kobina Baiden also in his speech promised to designate some of his forest guard to purposely take care of the many trees planted at the Bibiani municipal hospital so that they can achieve the objective of this year’s program.
