In a continued effort to improve educational infrastructure, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is constructing a 600-bed capacity girls’ dormitory for Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School (SHS) in the Western North Region. The three-storey building, initiated through the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, is set to provide modern and spacious accommodation for female students at the school, which is the Asantehene’s alma mater.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Otumfuo Hiahene, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, who serves as the Board Chair of the Otumfuo Foundation, visited the construction site to inspect the ongoing progress of the project. This routine monitoring exercise was conducted to ensure the project stays on track, maintaining high standards and timely completion.
Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei was accompanied by representatives from Attachy Construction Limited, the contractors overseeing the construction, and consultants from Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), the supervising firm. The inspection team assessed various aspects of the project, including the structural integrity, quality of materials, and compliance with the projected timelines.
The 600-bed dormitory is expected to greatly ease accommodation challenges at Sefwi Wiawso SHS, which has experienced increasing student enrollment in recent years. The new facility will provide a conducive environment for the female students, enabling them to focus on their academic work without concerns about overcrowded living spaces.
Speaking after the inspection, Otumfuo Hiahene Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far. He commended the contractors and consultants for their dedication and urged them to maintain the pace of work to ensure the facility is completed on schedule. “This project will be a significant boost to the school, especially for the girls who will benefit from an improved living environment,” he stated.
The dormitory project is part of the Otumfuo Foundation’s broader mission to enhance education across Ghana, with a particular focus on supporting girl-child education. Through various initiatives, the Foundation has been instrumental in constructing schools, libraries, and other educational facilities to empower young learners, particularly in underserved regions.
The foundation’s investment in this project highlights Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s long-standing commitment to education, as he continues to support his alma mater and other schools across the country. The construction of this girls’ dormitory will leave a lasting impact on the lives of future generations, ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed academically.
The project is expected to be completed in the coming months, with all stakeholders working diligently to meet the deadlines.
