
The Onwe community has expressed profound appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for initiating 14 major GETFund projects at Onwe Senior High School (Onwe SHS), a development set to transform education and improve learning infrastructure in the area.

The gratitude was voiced by the Benkumhene of Ejisu Traditional Council and Chief of Onwe, Nana Asokwa Dankagyebour II, during the sod-cutting ceremony for the projects. Nana Asokwa Dankagyebour II commended President Mahama for prioritizing education in Ejisu and appealed for the construction of the Ejisu-Onwe road, a vital route that would facilitate business operations and enhance accessibility for students, teachers, and community members.

“These projects are a historic milestone for Onwe SHS. They will improve the learning environment, attract more students, and empower our youth. We are sincerely grateful to President Mahama and urge that the Ejisu-Onwe road be constructed to complement these initiatives,” Nana Asokwa Dankagyebour II stated.
Scope of the GETFund Projects
The 14 projects approved under the GETFund initiative include:
A two-story, 8-unit dormitory block with a one-bedroom master’s quarters.
A three-story, 18-unit classroom block.
A two-level dining hall with a modern kitchen.

12-seater toilet blocks.
Four two-bedroom staff bungalows.
Administration block.
Headmaster’s bungalow.
Two-story library and ICT block.
Science resource center.
Additional supporting facilities to enhance the school environment.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Jerryne Asante, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu, emphasized that these projects reflect the government’s commitment under President Mahama to invest in education, create better learning environments, and support human capital development.

Construction and Timeline
Mr. Philip Osei Gyamfi, Managing Director of Ashlands Company Ltd, the contractor for the projects, revealed that construction would commence immediately. He indicated that the projects are expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to favorable conditions and timely delivery of materials. He assured the community of high-quality workmanship and adherence to timelines.“This is a transformative intervention for Onwe SHS. Our commitment is to deliver modern, functional, and durable facilities that will serve the students and staff for generations to come,” Mr. Gyamfi said.

The sod-cutting ceremony brought together traditional leaders, municipal officials, school administrators, contractors, and community members, all of whom expressed optimism that these projects would significantly enhance educational outcomes and attract further development to Onwe.

Nana Asokwa Dankagyebour II reiterated the urgent need for the Ejisu-Onwe road, emphasizing that its construction would complement the ongoing educational investments, facilitate business, and improve mobility for the community.
