Digital entrepreneurs across Ghana are calling on the government to improve the country’s internet infrastructure to support online businesses and boost economic growth. They argue that poor internet connectivity continues to hinder digital trade, affecting transactions, customer engagement, and overall business efficiency.
At an event held in Adum to introduce Ghanaians to online business opportunities, the Ashanti Regional Director of UP Africa Movement, Mr. David Megga, voiced concerns about the persistent challenges faced by digital entrepreneurs due to unreliable internet services.
“Frequent network disruptions delay transactions, cause failed payments, and make it difficult to engage with customers on social media and e-commerce platforms,” he stated.
He emphasized that without stable internet, many businesses struggle to meet customer demands, leading to financial losses and missed growth opportunities.
On behalf of the online business community, Mr. Megga appealed to the government and telecom operators to invest in modern internet infrastructure, expand broadband coverage, and make high-speed internet affordable and accessible nationwide.
“We urge the government to prioritize internet development because the digital economy is the future. Without reliable internet, many businesses will struggle to thrive,” he stressed.
According to him, enhancing connectivity will not only improve digital commerce but also attract foreign investments and position Ghana as a leading e-business hub in Africa.
Beyond advocating for better internet services, Mr. Megga encouraged Ghanaian youth to take advantage of digital opportunities instead of solely relying on traditional education and employment.
“We are in a digital economy. The youth should use their smartphones for online business instead of waiting to graduate and look for jobs. The time is now for Ghanaians to register for online businesses and become financially independent,” he advised.
He also criticized the increasing trend of labor strikes due to low salaries, arguing that digital entrepreneurship offers a more sustainable path to financial security.
As Ghana continues to embrace digital transformation, many entrepreneurs believe that stronger internet infrastructure is key to unlocking the country’s full economic potential.
