A community-based philanthropic group, the Omene Bour Nana Fun Club, has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to education and youth development by donating football jerseys and footballs valued at GH¢5,000 to three basic schools in Yonso, a community within the Asante Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The donation, which benefited Yonso United Primary School, Yonso Islamic Primary School, and Yonso M/A Primary School, was aimed at promoting sports and physical education among pupils while encouraging them to balance their academic pursuits with extracurricular activities.

Presenting the items on behalf of the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Elder Emmanuel Osei Tawia — popularly known in social and philanthropic circles as Omene Bour Nana — Mr. Kwame Agyenim Boateng reaffirmed the club’s dedication to supporting the holistic development of children in the community. He explained that the gesture forms part of the group’s long-term mission to use sports as a vehicle for discipline, unity, and excellence among the youth of Yonso.

According to him, the club believes that sports and education are powerful tools for empowerment and social change. He therefore encouraged both teachers and parents to identify and nurture the sporting talents of their wards while ensuring that they take their academic work seriously.

“We want to see these young boys and girls rise to become professional footballers who will make Yonso proud. But while doing that, they must also take their education seriously because education remains the key to success,” Mr. Agyenim Boateng emphasized.

He also urged the beneficiary schools to put the donated items to good use, stressing the need to maintain them properly to ensure they last and serve the intended purpose of inspiring young athletes in the community.

In a passionate appeal, Mr. Agyenim Boateng called on Yonso indigenes both home and abroad to support the ongoing developmental efforts in the community. He pointed out that the Omene Bour Nana Fun Club, though made up of determined and self-motivated individuals, cannot single-handedly shoulder the responsibility of transforming Yonso.

“Those who come from Yonso but now live abroad should remember home. Development starts from within, and if each of us plays our part, our community will change for the better,” he added.

Beyond the recent donation, the Chief Executive Officer, Elder Emmanuel Osei Tawia, has over the years organized a series of impactful programs to promote community development in Yonso. These include regular clean-up exercises, desilting of choked gutters to improve sanitation, and educational quizzes for schools in the community aimed at fostering academic excellence among pupils. Through these initiatives, Elder Osei Tawia and his team have built a strong sense of unity, discipline, and civic responsibility among residents while encouraging children to take pride in their community and education.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiary schools, the headteachers of Yonso United Primary, Yonso Islamic Primary, and Yonso M/A Primary expressed profound gratitude to Elder Emmanuel Osei Tawia and the entire membership of the Omene Bour Nana Fun Club for their thoughtful gesture. They described the donation as timely, impactful, and a strong motivation for both pupils and teachers to work harder.

They, however, seized the opportunity to highlight several challenges confronting their schools, including the lack of toilet facilities, absence of smart televisions for kindergarten pupils, dilapidated classroom blocks, non-functional ceiling fans, lack of a fence wall for security, and the absence of a decent kitchen for the School Feeding Programme.

The headteachers appealed to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and the Member of Parliament for Mampong, Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, to intervene urgently by supporting the renovation and expansion of the affected schools to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.

They emphasized that while the gesture by the Omene Bour Nana Fun Club has rekindled hope and enthusiasm among pupils, lasting change will require a collective effort from government, stakeholders, and natives of Yonso.

The brief but spirited event ended on a note of gratitude and celebration as pupils, teachers, and community members joined in songs and cheers to thank Elder Emmanuel Osei Tawia and his team for their generosity. The ceremony, held on the school premises, was marked by joy, unity, and a renewed sense of purpose among residents.

The Omene Bour Nana Fun Club, established to promote development and social welfare initiatives in Yonso and its surrounding communities, has over the years supported several educational and youth empowerment projects. The club’s continuous efforts have earned it recognition as one of the most active and impactful community-driven groups in the Asante Mampong Municipality.

With this latest gesture and his consistent dedication to community service, Elder Emmanuel Osei Tawia continues to stand out as a beacon of hope and a driving force for positive transformation in Yonso and beyond.
