The Offinso Traditional Council has installed Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III as the new Queen Mother of the Offinso Traditional Area after an eight-month vacancy. Her installation follows the decision of the Offinso Akokondease and Ahyirem Royal Family, which chose her to ascend the stool.
Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III’s installation ceremony was marked by traditional rites and customs, and she was officially introduced to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who oversees the entire Ashanti Kingdom, of which Offinso is a part.
Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III succeeds Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, who was destooled by the Asantehene for what was described as gross insubordination. Her destoolment was seen as a stern reminder of the need for loyalty and respect for traditional authority within the kingdom.
Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III becomes the thirteenth Queen Mother in the line of succession for the Offinso community in the Ashanti Region, a role traditionally held in high esteem. As the new Queen Mother, she is expected to play a crucial role in the administration and welfare of the people of Offinso, particularly in issues concerning women and children.
Gratitude and Vision for the Future
In her acceptance speech, Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Omanhene of Offinso, Nana Wiafe Akenten, for the honor and trust placed in her. She also thanked the Royal Family and the people of Offinso for their support.
Speaking to the media after her installation, she outlined her vision for Offinso, focusing on education, women’s empowerment, and overall development for the community.
“I believe education is the bedrock of development. I will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that young girls, in particular, are given the opportunity to pursue their education and realize their full potential. Women’s empowerment will also be a central part of my agenda, as I believe empowered women are key to the progress of our society,” she stated.
She further promised to work with the Offinso Traditional Council and other local leaders to foster unity and development within the traditional area, highlighting the importance of collaboration in achieving her goals for the community.
The role of Queen Mother in Ashanti culture is highly revered. Queen Mothers act as advisors to chiefs and serve as the voice for women in the community. They are entrusted with the responsibility of guiding young women and advocating for their welfare while preserving the customs and traditions of the Ashanti people.
Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III’s installation as the new Queen Mother marks a new era for Offinso, and her reign is expected to bring renewed energy and focus on the social and economic development of the community.

The people of Offinso and the wider Ashanti Region will be watching closely as Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III begins her reign. Her leadership is expected to inspire change, empower women, and contribute to the growth and prosperity of the community.
