Obuasi West MCE Faustilove Appiah Kannin Holds Thanksgiving Service to Thank President Mahama and Assembly Members, Pledges Swift Action on Development Projects
The newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi West, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has officially commenced her administration with a spirited thanksgiving service to express her profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and Assembly Members for the trust and support shown in her appointment.
The thanksgiving ceremony, held in a vibrant atmosphere filled with clergy, traditional rulers, Assembly Members, political party executives, and residents of Obuasi West, served both as a celebration of her confirmation and a public declaration of her commitment to accountable leadership and transformational development.
In her remarks, Madam Appiah Kannin singled out President Mahama for praise, describing him as a key figure in her political advancement. “I thank His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for the trust he has placed in me. I consider this an honor and a serious responsibility to uplift our municipality,” she said, as applause filled the gathering.
She was equally appreciative of the overwhelming endorsement from the Assembly Members during her confirmation, emphasizing that their collective support was a critical factor in her appointment. “Without the support of the Assembly Members, I wouldn’t be here today. Their confidence means a lot, and I am ready to deliver on the expectations they and the people of Obuasi West have of me,” she added.
Despite being newly inducted into office, Madam Appiah Kannin exuded confidence in her ability to adapt quickly, promising to lead a consultative administration that values inclusivity, transparency, and results. She pledged to maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders in the municipality, including traditional leaders, civil society, and youth groups, to foster shared ownership of the development agenda.
Wasting no time, the MCE revealed that she had already cut sod for three major projects previously abandoned under the last administration. Chief among them is the long-delayed Bediem-Saaso road, which has now seen contractors return to site—a move that has rekindled hope among commuters and residents. “We are not wasting time. Development has begun, and we are working hard to complete projects that will improve lives,” she declared.
Adding to the momentum, Madam Appiah Kannin disclosed that President Mahama had directed the release of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), enabling the Assembly to begin implementing much-needed infrastructure projects. She outlined plans for the construction of classroom blocks to ease overcrowding in schools, toilet facilities to promote hygiene among school children, and boreholes to supply potable water to communities that have long struggled with access.
In a particularly bold initiative, she announced the municipality’s preparedness to roll out the 24-hour economy market initiative—a flagship policy aimed at stimulating job creation and revamping local commerce. “The Common Fund will be used exactly for what it’s intended—development. The 24-hour market economy is not just a promise; it is a policy we are rolling out to empower our local economy,” she assured.
Madam Appiah Kannin concluded her address with a heartfelt appeal for unity, urging all stakeholders to work together for the progress of Obuasi West. “This is not a one-person job. I ask for your continued support, prayers, and cooperation so we can build Obuasi West together. My doors are always open,” she said.
