Obuasi West MCE Faustilove Appiah Kannin Holds Thanksgiving Service, Launches Development Drive

The newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi West, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has officially begun her tenure with a thanksgiving service, expressing heartfelt appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and Assembly Members for their confidence and support in her appointment.

Held amidst a gathering of clergy, traditional leaders, Assembly Members, party executives, and community members, the thanksgiving service was both a celebration and a declaration of intent by the MCE to lead with transparency, accountability, and a strong development focus.

In her address, Madam Appiah Kannin acknowledged the pivotal role of President Mahama in her political journey, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Obuasi West. “I thank His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for the trust he has placed in me. I consider this an honor and a serious responsibility to uplift our municipality,” she stated.

She also commended the Assembly Members for their overwhelming endorsement during her confirmation, noting that their collective decision paved the way for her appointment. “Without the support of the Assembly Members, I wouldn’t be here today. Their confidence means a lot, and I am ready to deliver on the expectations they and the people of Obuasi West have of me,” she added.

Madam Appiah Kannin was quick to admit that she is still transitioning into the new role, but expressed confidence in her ability to learn fast and make an impact. She emphasized her readiness to listen, collaborate, and work with all stakeholders to advance the development agenda of the municipality.

In a bold and proactive move, the MCE announced that she had already cut sod for three major projects that had been left uncompleted by the previous administration. Among them is the long-neglected road from Bediem to Saaso, which is now under active construction—an intervention that has already brought hope to local residents and commuters. “We are not wasting time. Development has begun, and we are working hard to complete projects that will improve lives,” she said.

Furthermore, Madam Appiah Kannin disclosed that President Mahama has authorized the release of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), allowing the Assembly to begin critical infrastructure projects. These include the construction of classroom blocks to reduce congestion in schools, toilet facilities for school children to enhance sanitation, and boreholes to increase access to potable water in underserved communities.

She also announced plans to implement the much-anticipated 24-hour economy market initiative—a move that is expected to boost economic activity and create jobs within the municipality. “The Common Fund will be used exactly for what it’s intended—development. The 24-hour market economy is not just a promise; it is a policy we are rolling out to empower our local economy,” she assured.

As she embarks on her journey, the MCE called for unity and support from all sectors—traditional leaders, Assembly Members, civil society, youth groups, and residents—stressing that development can only be achieved through collective effort. “This is not a one-person job. I ask for your continued support, prayers, and cooperation so we can build Obuasi West together. My doors are always open,” she concluded.

Her message was met with loud applause and praise from the attendees, many of whom expressed optimism that her leadership would mark a new chapter of growth and inclusiveness in Obuasi West.
