Nyinahin Bauxite Project Gets Boost as GIADEC Launches Community Relations Committee

The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has officially launched a 19-member Community Relations Committee to strengthen collaboration and address community concerns arising from the Nyinahin bauxite mining project in the Atwima Mponua District.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Nyinahin, was attended by traditional leaders, government officials, security personnel, representatives of civil society, and members of affected communities. The committee has been tasked with fostering strong communication channels, promoting transparency, and resolving issues linked to mining activities in the area.

Chairman of GIADEC, Dr. Richmond Antwi Badiako, emphasized the significance of the committee as a key mechanism for ensuring that mining operations contribute to local development. He noted that effective community engagement is critical for building trust and achieving sustainable benefits for residents within the mining catchment area.

The 19-member committee includes representatives from traditional authorities, religious bodies, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Information Services Department, the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI), the Ghana Police Service, civil society organizations, women’s groups, and affected communities.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Community Relations Committee, Mr. Harun Adam Babajida, called on GIADEC to maintain openness and honesty in all dealings with the committee. He stressed that trust and regular dialogue are essential for ensuring that the people of Atwima Mponua gain maximum benefits from the bauxite project.

Mr. Babajida also urged GIADEC to prioritize local employment by allocating at least 30 percent of jobs to residents within the mining communities. He emphasized that this would enhance economic empowerment, community participation, and public support for the project.

The launch of the Community Relations Committee represents a major step in GIADEC’s commitment to responsible mining, sustainable development, and ensuring that the Nyinahin bauxite project delivers tangible benefits to local communities.
