NPP Youth Wing Picks Nomination Forms for Bawumia on International Youth Day
A powerful show of unity and loyalty unfolded in Accra on Wednesday when the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constituency youth organisers and their deputies picked up nomination forms for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, signalling their overwhelming support for him in the party’s 2028 presidential primaries.

In what party insiders describe as an unprecedented mobilisation effort, a total of 552 constituency youth organisers and their deputies from all corners of the country converged on the capital, turning the day into a celebration of grassroots solidarity. The group deliberately timed the move to coincide with International Youth Day, a decision they say was symbolic of the youth’s confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and vision for Ghana’s future.
Speaking to journalists after the forms were picked, the organisers praised Dr. Bawumia as the most credible, experienced, and unifying figure in the NPP. “The only one we see as a unifier in the party is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He is the only leader we believe is credible and has no iota of corruption associated with him,” they stated, adding that his spotless reputation and inclusive leadership style make him the natural choice to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
They further highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s long-standing service to the party and the country, noting that his political journey—spanning from his first appearance as vice-presidential candidate in 2008 to serving two terms as Vice President—has equipped him with unmatched experience. “The only person that has gathered the experience over the years, from 2008 until now, as a former Vice Presidential candidate and later becoming the former Vice President of Ghana, is Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia. And we believe strongly that the youth of Ghana—from our polling stations, electoral areas, constituencies, and up to the national level—are waiting for him to lead the NPP,” they said.
According to the group, their decision to spearhead this nomination process is part of a broader campaign to ensure that the party’s leadership in 2028 reflects the aspirations of its youthful base. They stressed that Dr. Bawumia’s policies during his vice-presidency—particularly in the areas of digital innovation, financial inclusion, and economic transformation—resonated strongly with young people and gave them a platform for progress.
Political commentators believe that this massive show of support from the NPP’s youth wing gives Dr. Bawumia a solid head start in the race for the flagbearership. With the backing of the party’s grassroots organisers, his campaign could benefit from one of the most extensive volunteer networks in NPP’s recent history.
As the 2028 race begins to take shape, Wednesday’s event has already sent a strong message across the political spectrum: the youth of the NPP are ready to rally behind the man they believe can unite the party and lead Ghana into a new era of transformation.
