“No One Will Sell Abuontem Lands Under My Watch” — Nana Akomea Sakyi Tutu II Warns

The Chief of Abuontem in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Akomea Sakyi Tutu II, has issued a firm and unwavering warning to individuals engaged in unauthorized land sales, declaring that under his leadership, no one will ever sell Abuontem lands again. The chief, who spoke passionately during an address to residents and members of the traditional council, emphasized that protecting the community’s lands and resources remained one of his topmost priorities and that he would not tolerate any act that sought to undermine that goal.

His declaration follows a recent demonstration by some residents of Abuontem, who accused him of selling portions of community lands, including a cemetery and the local football field. The protesters also cited the alleged seizure of public property for private use as one of their grievances and petitioned both the Bretuo family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Adu-Tutu, and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene.

Responding to the allegations, Nana Akomea Sakyi Tutu II dismissed them as baseless, mischievous, and politically motivated. He stated that such claims were part of a grand scheme orchestrated by individuals who had previously engaged in the illegal sale of community lands before his enstoolment and were now seeking to cover up their actions by shifting blame onto his administration. He accused these detractors of deliberately spreading falsehoods to create disunity and distract the community from the positive developments being pursued under his leadership.

The chief asserted that his reign was anchored on transparency, accountability, and sustainable development, adding that all decisions made by the traditional council were guided by the collective welfare of the people of Abuontem. He said his focus since assuming the stool had been to restore discipline in land management and to ensure that every inch of Abuontem land was protected for the current and future generations. He stressed that he would never allow the community’s lands to be sold illegally again, warning that any person found engaging in such practices would face strict traditional and legal sanctions.

Touching on the controversy surrounding the relocation of the community football field, Nana Akomea Sakyi Tutu II explained that the decision was a strategic development initiative and not an act of greed, as alleged by his critics. According to him, the traditional council decided to use the existing field site for the construction of a modern palace and a multi-purpose social center that would serve as a hub for community gatherings, cultural events, and official functions. He said this project was part of a long-term development plan aimed at providing Abuontem with the infrastructure needed to enhance community life and cultural identity.

The chief further disclosed that a new location had already been provided to serve as a temporary football field to ensure that youth activities and sporting events continued uninterrupted. He revealed that plans were far advanced to develop a standard football pitch that would serve not only the community’s recreational needs but also promote talent development among the youth. He encouraged the youth to see the relocation as a necessary step toward greater progress and assured them that the final outcome would benefit the entire community.

Nana Akomea Sakyi Tutu II strongly refuted claims that any part of the community cemetery had been sold to private developers. He described such allegations as fabrications designed to incite public anger against his leadership. He maintained that no land transaction had been carried out under his authority and challenged those making the accusations to provide evidence. He said his leadership was committed to safeguarding all sacred and communal properties, stressing that anyone found guilty of defaming the traditional council with false allegations would be made to answer before the elders.

The chief reaffirmed his vision of leading Abuontem into an era of peace, unity, and progress. He called on residents to reject divisive propaganda and instead rally behind the traditional council to achieve the community’s development goals. He assured them that his administration would remain transparent and inclusive, inviting every well-meaning citizen of Abuontem, both at home and abroad, to contribute their support toward ongoing development projects such as the palace and community center.

Nana Akomea Sakyi Tutu II concluded by reminding his subjects that leadership comes with responsibility, and his duty as chief is to serve the people with honesty, humility, and a deep sense of stewardship. He said Abuontem’s lands are a heritage to be preserved, not a commodity to be sold, and that as long as he sits on the stool, no individual or group will ever have the freedom to sell or misuse community property. He urged all residents to embrace unity and development, emphasizing that together they could transform Abuontem into a model of progress and accountability within the Bosomtwe District.
