The Assembly Member for Yaw Boadi, Hon. Dauda Mohammed, popularly known as Salvation, has issued a strong caution to Ghanaian youth about the dangers of substance abuse, emphasizing that no dream should be sacrificed for drugs.
Speaking during the ‘Red Means Stop’ campaign in Aduagyama on March 30, where the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations were also taking place, Hon. Dauda Mohammed underscored the devastating impact of opioid addiction. He urged young people to make informed decisions that safeguard their future, health, and aspirations.
“Your dreams are too valuable to be sacrificed for drugs. Your potential is too precious to be squandered on fleeting highs. You’ll get high for 10 to 20 minutes, and then you come back to reality,” he cautioned.
Call for National Action Against Drug Abuse
Hon. Dauda Mohammed urged all well-meaning Ghanaians to rally behind efforts to combat drug abuse, stating that the menace is a national crisis requiring collective intervention.
“Every individual who means well for Ghana must join in this fight and ensure the message of ‘Red Means Stop’ reaches every corner of this country,” he said.
He compared the fight against drug abuse to the ongoing battle against illegal mining (galamsey), stressing that the same level of intensity and commitment must be applied to tackling the opioid crisis that is destroying the future of many young people.
Appreciation to President Mahama
Hon. Dauda Mohammed also took the opportunity to thank former President John Dramani Mahama for his efforts in supporting Assembly Members. He acknowledged the introduction of monthly allowances as a significant step in improving the welfare of local government representatives.
Municipal Chief Imam Joins the Fight Against Drug Abuse
Adding his voice to the call, the Municipal Chief Imam, Alhaji Aziz Abdullah Ramadan, advised the youth to stay away from drugs, emphasizing that a drug-free lifestyle is essential for their personal development and future success.
“If you want to succeed in life, avoid drugs. Focus on education, skills, and personal growth. Drugs will only destroy your dreams,” he warned.
The ‘Red Means Stop’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, has received support from various community leaders, government officials, and religious figures. The initiative continues to spread its message across different regions, urging young people to prioritize their future over momentary pleasures.
