Nkokɔnkitinkiti Programme: Asante Akim Central MCE Appeals to Beneficiary Farmers for Proper Chick Management to Strengthen Local Poultry Production

The Municipal Chief Executive for Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly, Hon. Rev. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, has appealed to beneficiary farmers under the government’s Nkokɔnkitinkiti poultry programme to adopt proper chick management practices to ensure the long-term success of the initiative and strengthen local poultry production.

Hon. Rev. Ekow Aidoo made the call during the distribution of day-old chicks to selected beneficiaries across the municipality. He stressed that the effectiveness and sustainability of the programme depend largely on the commitment of farmers to provide the chicks with the right feed, adequate housing, good sanitation, and timely medication.

According to the MCE, a total of 10,000 chicks were distributed in the Asante Akim Central Municipality, with each beneficiary receiving 30 chicks. He explained that the Nkokɔnkitinkiti initiative is designed to boost domestic poultry production, improve household incomes, and create employment opportunities, particularly for the youth and small-scale farmers.

He cautioned beneficiaries against poor handling and neglect of the birds, noting that such practices could undermine the objectives of the programme and the government’s investment. He therefore urged farmers to take full advantage of technical support from officers of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to ensure adherence to approved poultry farming standards, including disease prevention and effective farm management.

Hon. Rev. Ekow Aidoo further stated that the Nkokɔnkitinkiti programme forms part of the government’s broader efforts to revitalise the poultry sector and reduce Ghana’s dependence on imported poultry products. He emphasised that strengthening local poultry production is key to enhancing food security and stimulating economic growth at the municipal level.

The MCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to monitoring the implementation of the programme and supporting beneficiaries to ensure its success. He expressed confidence that with dedication, discipline and proper management practices, the Nkokɔnkitinkiti initiative would make a significant contribution to improving livelihoods and strengthening the local economy in the Asante Akim Central Municipality.
