Nkawie-Toase Hospital MBU Receives Major Donation from Philanthropist Akwasi Agyemang

The Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) of the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly has received a significant boost following a generous donation from philanthropist and businessman Mr. Akwasi Agyemang and his wife, owners of Man Man Company Limited. The couple presented sanitary items and essential consumables valued at GH₵10,000 to enhance quality care for mothers and newborns.
The donation, made on Friday, November 21, 2025, included baby diapers, wipes, mosquito nets, assorted beverages, bottled water, and the payment of medical bills for selected mothers who were unable to settle their expenses. The gesture coincided with this year’s Preterm Day celebration by the MBU, a day set aside to highlight the needs of babies born before 37 weeks of gestation.

This latest support adds to the couple’s remarkable contributions to the facility. In the previous year, Mr. Agyemang and his wife donated a Fire Fly phototherapy machine worth GH₵65,000 to the unit. The highly specialized equipment, which remains rare within the region, is crucial for the treatment of newborns suffering from severe jaundice.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital’s management, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer Mrs. Catherine Agyemang expressed profound gratitude to the donors for their continuous and impactful support. She noted that the availability of the phototherapy machine has significantly strengthened the MBU’s capacity to deliver quality neonatal care.
According to her, the equipment has drastically reduced the facility’s reliance on Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and other advanced health centres. “Babies are no longer being transferred due to the unavailability of essential equipment,” she stated, describing the development as a major relief for both healthcare workers and families.

Mrs. Agyemang used the opportunity to call on other well-to-do individuals, philanthropists, and corporate institutions to emulate the example of Mr. and Mrs. Agyemang, emphasizing that collective support is critical to improving maternal and infant healthcare in the municipality.
