Nkawie Kumaa Queen and MCE Join Hands to Promote Regular Health Screenings at Abuakwa

The Queen Mother of Nkawie Kumaa, Ohene Yere Adoma Akosua, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Hon. Wisdom Boamah, have jointly called on residents of Abuakwa and its surrounding communities to prioritize regular medical check-ups as part of efforts to promote early detection and prevention of diseases.
This call was made during a free community health screening exercise organized at Abuakwa by the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly in partnership with the Anigyeɛ Fun Club, as part of activities marking this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event brought together hundreds of residents, including market women, youth groups, artisans, and the elderly, who benefited from free medical screening and health education.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Wisdom Boamah emphasized that good health is the foundation for a productive and prosperous society. He encouraged residents to make health checks a regular habit to prevent the onset of serious illnesses that often result from neglect and late detection. “Take good care of your health to avoid future illnesses. Regular medical check-ups help detect diseases early, making treatment easier and more effective,” the MCE advised.

Hon. Boamah underscored the government’s commitment to improving access to healthcare, noting that such community-based health initiatives play a crucial role in complementing national health programs. He commended the Anigyeɛ Fun Club for its outstanding social initiative aimed at improving the health and well-being of residents. The MCE also encouraged other youth groups and associations to emulate this gesture by organizing similar programs that benefit their communities.

The Queen Mother of Nkawie Kumaa, Ohene Yere Adoma Akosua, in her remarks, reiterated the importance of regular hospital visits and early health screening, especially among women. She noted that timely medical check-ups not only save lives but also reduce the economic burden on families and communities. “Go to the hospital for screening every month to know your illness status for easy identification and early treatment,” she urged.
Her Royal Highness further commended the MCE and the health professionals for bringing healthcare to the doorstep of the people of Abuakwa, particularly at a time when many residents face challenges accessing regular medical care due to financial constraints.

The screening exercise covered a wide range of health checks, including breast cancer screening, diabetes, hypertension, malaria, and other lifestyle-related diseases. Participants also received education on breast self-examination, nutrition, exercise, and the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Health experts used the opportunity to distribute educational materials on preventive healthcare and encouraged residents to seek medical attention whenever they notice unusual symptoms.

Several residents who benefited from the screening expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Wisdom Boamah, the Anigyeɛ Fun Club, and the health professionals who made the event possible. They described the initiative as timely, especially in a period when the rising cost of healthcare limits access to regular medical attention for many families.

The MCE assured residents that the Assembly remains committed to sustaining similar outreach programs across all communities in the municipality to ensure that everyone, regardless of social or economic background, has access to quality healthcare. He added that promoting preventive healthcare remains one of the Assembly’s top priorities in building a healthier and more productive population.
The free health screening exercise at Abuakwa thus stood out not only as a life-saving intervention but also as a powerful symbol of partnership between traditional authority, local government, and civil society in advancing community health and wellness in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
