Nima Polyclinic in operation amid nationwide lab scientists’ strike

Amidst a nationwide strike by medical laboratory scientists that has crippled many healthcare facilities, the Nima Polyclinic in Accra remains fully operational.

The strike, which began this week, has led to a significant disruption of services in hospitals and clinics across the country, leaving many patients without essential diagnostic services.

However, at the Nima Polyclinic, lab professionals have chosen to continue working.

Their commitment has ensured that the clinic remains a vital resource for the community during this period of uncertainty. As a result, the facility has experienced a marked increase in the number of lab requests, as patients from other areas flock to Nima for their medical needs.

Medical Director of the Polyclinic explained that while the increased workload has put additional pressure on the staff, they are managing to meet the demand.

“Our team is dedicated to serving the community, and we are doing everything we can to ensure that patients receive the care they need,” she said.

Patients at the clinic have expressed their gratitude for the continued service. “I came here because the lab at my usual hospital is closed due to the strike. I’m thankful that the Nima Polyclinic is still open and able to help,” said Amina, a resident of Accra.

The nationwide strike is part of a protest by medical laboratory scientists seeking better working conditions and pay. Negotiations with the government are ongoing, but there has yet to be a resolution.

In the meantime, the Nima Polyclinic stands as a beacon of hope, providing essential medical services and ensuring that patients do not go without care.

The situation remains dynamic as negotiations continue, and many are hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon, allowing all healthcare facilities to return to normal operations.
