The National Identification Authority (NIA) says all Ghanaians who registered for their Ghana Cards last year but are yet to receive them can visit its district and regional offices from Wednesday, April 5 for them.
This follows the completion of printing of over 500,000 backlog of cards.
The printing of the Ghana Cards had been halted as a result of financial challenges faced by the Authority.
But on Tuesday, March 21, it announced that about GH¢100 million was released by government to settle CalBank PLC.
This precipitated printing of the backlog of cards in time for usage by Ghanaians.
“The expedited printing exercise, which begun on 18. March 2023, came to a smooth end on Monday, 27th March 2023 with all records in backlog printed,” the NIA said in a statement on Wednesday, March 29.
“The ultimate objective of this exercise was to print records of registered Ghanaians in backlog since July 2022.”
It said the printed cards are being packaged and between Wednesday and Sunday, April 2 will be dispatched to regional and district offices for distribution.
“All Ghanaians who have registered for their Ghana Cards since July 2022 but are yet to receive them, are assured that effective Wednesday, 5th April 2023, they can visit the District or Regional Offices where they registered for their printed cards to be issued to them.”
The Ghana Card has been pencilled down as the sole document of proof by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) in a new constitutional instrument (CI) being prepared for consideration in Parliament.
