On January 1, 2025, Hon. Nii Lartey Ollenu, the former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie West, and businessman Frederick Kwadwo Nkansah, affectionately known as “Yentumi,” made a generous donation of GH₵ 20,000 worth of food and essentials to the Heart Smiles Children’s Home in Akropong, Amansie West District.
The donation, which included items such as bags of rice, sugar, toiletries, assorted soft drinks, cooking oil, biscuits, bottled water, and an undisclosed cash donation, was aimed at bringing comfort and happiness to the children at the orphanage during the New Year celebrations. This yearly donation has become a tradition for the duo, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable children and giving back to the community.
The donation ceremony took place at the orphanage, where the two philanthropists spent quality time with the children, engaging in conversations and sharing special moments. The event concluded with a heartfelt dinner party, ensuring the children were not only provided with food but also with a sense of love and care.
The Chief of Akropong, Nana Oddai Kwame Nketia III, attended the event to show his support and commend the noble efforts of Hon. Ollenu and Mr. Yentumi. His presence further emphasized the importance of community solidarity in supporting the less privileged.
In his address, Hon. Nii Lartey Ollenu expressed his deep affection for children, especially those in vulnerable circumstances. He said, “We have much love for children; they are so dear to us,” underscoring his belief that providing for children in need is not only a social responsibility but also a spiritual act. Quoting the biblical adage “Service to Man is service to God,” Hon. Ollenu emphasized that showing love and support to children is a direct expression of kindness to God.
Mr. Frederick Kwadwo Nkansah Yentumi echoed Hon. Ollenu’s sentiments, highlighting that the prayers from the children are powerful blessings for those who support them. He encouraged others in the community to join in the effort to uplift vulnerable groups, emphasizing that kindness begets blessings.
This philanthropic collaboration between Hon. Ollenu and Mr. Yentumi has become a beacon of hope for many children at Heart Smiles Children’s Home. Their dedication to ensuring that the children receive love and support year after year has inspired other community members to also engage in acts of charity.
