NBU/SOS Project: CSOs, Assembly Members Trained On EASP And Social Accountability

 

Implementing officials of the Ghana government’s Tax Revenue for Economic Enhancement (TREE) pilot Project joined officials of the European Union funded Project NBU on the 23rd of November, 2020 and rolled out a day’s workshop on the implementation of the Electoral Area Small Project (EASP) and Social Accountability.

Characteristic of officials of the later project (NBU), the training was held for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), staff and members of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly.

It was geared towards enhancing the capacity of participants to implement the EASP, deepen Social accountability and to ultimately enhance revenue mobilization which is one of the core objectives of both TREE and NBU project

The prologue of the training which was steered by Hamza Bawah (Communication Expert for the TREE Project) centred on what TREE entails, reasons for its formation, implementing agencies and the 33 MMDA’s within which it is being piloted.

Participants were abruptly schooled on sources of revenue, challenges faced under revenue collection, the need for social accountability and how to ensure the effective utilization of all collected revenues within the municipality.

He explained that under the new system, each electoral area stands the chance of earning 20 percent on revenues collected and that the higher the internally generated revenue, the higher the earning.

An electronic system of payment of property rate according to him has also been introduced under the new system.

Hamza Bawah said the foregoing will offer property owners the convenience to pay their bills in the comfort of their homes.
