The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has successfully stabilised the national electricity transmission network following a system disturbance that temporarily disrupted power supply to parts of the Northern, Middle, and Western Regions.

The disturbance occurred on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 3:16 p.m., when a fault developed on sections of the transmission lines, triggering interruptions in electricity supply to several areas.

GRIDCo immediately deployed technical teams to assess and rectify the fault. Through swift and coordinated restoration efforts, the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS) was fully restored by 8:09 p.m. the same day, returning power to affected regions.

In a statement, GRIDCo assured the public that continuous measures are being implemented to enhance the reliability and resilience of the transmission network. The Company emphasised that these measures aim to prevent future occurrences and ensure a stable electricity supply nationwide.

The Company also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to affected customers and stakeholders, while commending their patience and understanding during the restoration process.

Established in December 2006 and operational since August 2008, GRIDCo is responsible for the economic dispatching and transmission of electricity from wholesale suppliers—including Independent Power Producers (IPPs)—to bulk customers and distribution utilities across Ghana and the West African sub-region. The Company currently transmits electricity from eleven (11) wholesale suppliers to thirty-one (31) bulk customers, including the Volta River Authority (VRA).
