Nana Oppong Bannor Antwi Okumtrɔmoo, Chief of Dompa, Appeals to DCE and MP to Fix Dompa’s Neglected Road Network

The newly enstooled Chief of Dompa in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Oppong Bannor Antwi Okumtrɔmoo, has passionately appealed to the District Chief Executive, Hon. Charles Appiah Kubi, and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Nana Asafo Agyei Ayeh, to come to the aid of the Dompa community by fixing the deplorable road network linking Temiabu, Ankaase, and Dompa.
During a community engagement with residents, Nana Oppong Bannor Antwi Okumtrɔmoo expressed deep concern about the poor state of the six-kilometer stretch connecting the three communities. He described the situation as heartbreaking and a major barrier to development, adding that residents have been enduring unbearable hardship for several years as a result of the neglected road.

According to the chief, transportation in the area has become extremely challenging, forcing residents to rely mainly on motorbikes, popularly known as okada, as their primary means of transport. He lamented that only a few commercial vehicles attempt to ply the route, and those that do often charge exorbitant fares due to the damage caused to their vehicles by the rough terrain. He added that the poor condition of the road has led to frequent accidents, limited access to healthcare and education, and a general decline in business activities in the area.

Speaking with emotion, Nana Oppong Bannor Antwi Okumtrɔmoo said both the rainy and dry seasons bring unbearable challenges to the people. During the rainy season, the road becomes muddy, slippery, and nearly impassable, while in the dry season, heavy dust clouds make travel hazardous for both riders and pedestrians. He emphasized that the people of Dompa, Temiabu, and Ankaase have suffered for far too long and deserve urgent government attention and support.

“Our people are suffering. The Temiabu–Ankaase–Dompa road is in a very deplorable state, and it gets worse each rainy season. Pregnant women, schoolchildren, and farmers all face serious challenges due to this poor road network. We are appealing to our DCE, our MP, and the government to come to our aid by fixing or reshaping this road,” Nana Oppong Bannor Antwi Okumtrɔmoo pleaded.

The Dompa Chief further explained that his community and its neighboring towns form one of the most populated areas within the Bosome Freho District, yet they have been left behind in terms of development. He stressed that improving the road would not only make movement easier for residents but would also boost local trade, encourage investment, and open up the area for broader economic growth.

He also highlighted the vital role the road plays in agricultural activities, noting that it serves as the main route for transporting food crops from farming communities to nearby markets. He lamented that farmers struggle to move their produce because of the poor condition of the road, leading to significant post-harvest losses and reduced income. According to him, fixing the road would greatly improve productivity and help lift residents out of poverty.

“The road connects farming communities that supply food crops to nearby markets, yet because of its poor state, many farmers struggle to transport their produce. Fixing this road will bring great relief to us and boost economic activities in this part of the district,” he stated.

Some residents who spoke with the media expressed excitement about the enstoolment of their new chief, describing him as a visionary and development-oriented leader. They commended Nana Oppong Bannor Antwi Okumtrɔmoo for using his leadership to draw attention to their long-standing challenges and for his determination to advocate for government intervention just weeks after his installation.

One resident remarked that the chief’s appeal was timely and reflected the true concerns of the people. He expressed hope that the authorities would listen and take swift action to reconstruct the road, which has been a source of hardship for many years.

“We are excited to have a new chief who is concerned about our welfare. We believe that his appeal will reach the right authorities, and something will finally be done about our road,” the resident said.

The residents of Dompa, Temiabu, and Ankaase have therefore renewed their call on the Bosome Freho District Assembly, their Member of Parliament, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to give urgent attention to their road. They believe the rehabilitation of the Temiabu–Ankaase–Dompa road remains a top development priority that could transform their living conditions, improve access to social amenities, and stimulate economic growth across the area.

The leadership of Nana Oppong Bannor Antwi Okumtrɔmoo has already reignited hope among the people of Dompa, who strongly believe that his commitment, advocacy, and collaboration with government authorities will bring about the long-awaited development their community deserves.
