Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw Calls for Urgent Road Infrastructure in Sekyere Afram Plains

The Chief of Drobonso, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw, has called on the Government of Ghana to urgently improve road infrastructure in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region, describing the poor state of roads as the most serious challenge undermining development and the livelihoods of residents.

According to the traditional ruler, the district remains largely cut off due to deplorable road conditions, with more than 60 communities struggling to access reliable transportation. He noted that the only tarred road linking Kumawu to Drobonso is grossly inadequate to serve the growing population and economic activities of the area, leaving residents to endure severe hardship, particularly during the rainy season.

Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw made the appeal during the Miss Drobonso Beauty Pageant 2025, an event that brought together traditional authorities, youth groups and other stakeholders. He used the occasion to draw attention to what he described as years of infrastructural neglect, calling for the immediate tarring of the Drobonso–Jeduako road and other critical roads within the district.

The chief explained that poor road infrastructure continues to affect the transportation of farm produce to major markets, leading to post-harvest losses and increased transportation costs. He added that the situation has discouraged private investment, slowed economic growth and limited access to essential social services, including healthcare and education.

Beyond roads, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw also highlighted pressing educational challenges in the district. He appealed for the completion of the dormitory block at the Drobonso Community Day Senior High School, stressing that the lack of boarding facilities continues to limit access to secondary education for students from remote communities.

In addition, the chief called for the establishment of a Nursing and Midwifery Training School in the Sekyere Afram Plains District to strengthen healthcare delivery and create training opportunities for the youth. According to him, such an institution would help address the shortage of health professionals in the area while contributing to local development.

The traditional ruler urged government and relevant stakeholders to respond with urgency, emphasising that sustainable and inclusive national development cannot be achieved without deliberate investment in rural and underserved communities such as the Sekyere Afram Plains.
