Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, will deliver the keynote address at the Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025 (Virtual Edition). The highly anticipated summit, which comes ahead of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP) in Brazil this November, is themed “Towards a Climate Resilient Africa through Strategic Communication.”

Championing Communication for Climate Action

Adwoa Wiafe, widely recognized as a leading voice in corporate sustainability and responsible business leadership, has been at the forefront of aligning environmental responsibility with business growth. At MTN Ghana, she has spearheaded the company’s sustainability pillars, which are designed to reduce carbon emissions through green technologies, strengthen inclusive community development and digital inclusion, and uphold ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability in all business operations.

Her keynote address is expected to emphasize how effective communication can transform climate challenges into opportunities for policy influence, business innovation, and community engagement. By highlighting communication as a driver of climate action, Wiafe will argue that messages must not only raise awareness but also inspire meaningful action across Africa and beyond.

> “Climate communication is more than just awareness, it is about mobilizing action. At MTN Ghana, we are committed to telling Africa’s climate story in a way that empowers people, protects the environment, and secures a sustainable future for generations to come,” Wiafe stated ahead of the summit.

A Platform for Africa’s Climate Story

The Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025 will bring together a diverse group of storytellers, journalists, media professionals, communication experts, and creative artists from across the continent, with additional participation from the United Kingdom. Delegates from countries such as Benin, Mali, and Nigeria will join the dialogue, sharing lived experiences and innovative approaches to addressing climate change.

The summit’s overarching goal is to position communication as the bridge between science, policy, and daily life, ensuring that climate information is not only technically sound but also accessible, relatable, and actionable for communities. Organizers stress that Africa’s climate narrative must shift from one of vulnerability to one of agency, innovation, and leadership in building resilience.

Linking the Private Sector to Africa’s Climate Agenda

Adwoa Wiafe’s keynote will further underscore the critical role of the private sector in climate resilience. Drawing from MTN Ghana’s sustainability journey, she will demonstrate how businesses can act as catalysts for climate action by using communication to build trust, partnerships, and collaboration across governments, civil society, and communities.

By highlighting MTN’s ongoing initiatives in sustainability, digital inclusion, and renewable energy adoption, Wiafe is expected to show that business growth and climate responsibility are not mutually exclusive but can be mutually reinforcing.

Africa at a Critical Moment

The Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025 takes place at a pivotal time, as the continent faces mounting climate-related challenges, from rising temperatures to food insecurity and extreme weather events. Yet, alongside these challenges, Africa presents immense opportunities for climate-smart innovation, renewable energy adoption, and community-driven resilience models.

The summit calls for Africa’s climate story to be told boldly and inclusively, ensuring that the continent is recognized not just as a frontline victim of climate change, but as a global leader in resilience, creativity, and sustainable development.
