MTN Invests GH¢240 Million to Boost 4G and Fibre Infrastructure Ahead of 5G Rollout

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its strong commitment to enhancing the nation’s digital infrastructure and connectivity with an ambitious GH¢240 million investment earmarked for 2025. The initiative, which focuses on expanding the company’s 4G network coverage and strengthening its fibre optic backbone, forms a strategic part of MTN’s preparation for the country’s much-anticipated nationwide 5G rollout.
The announcement was made by Mr. Joseph Dogbe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer of Scancom PLC (operators of MTN Ghana), during a Regional Stakeholders’ Forum held in Wa on October 21, 2025. The engagement, attended by community leaders, government officials, traditional authorities, media practitioners, and loyal customers, forms part of MTN’s ongoing nationwide stakeholder dialogue series aimed at promoting transparent communication and inclusive digital development.
Mr. Dogbe explained that dependable telecommunications infrastructure is the foundation of modern economies and that MTN remains committed to ensuring that no region is left behind in Ghana’s digital transformation journey.
“Over the past five years, MTN has invested more than GH¢1 billion in network modernization and digital infrastructure across Ghana. For this year alone, GH¢240 million has been allocated to extend fibre optic connectivity, expand 4G sites, and prepare our systems for a smooth transition to 5G technology,” he stated.
He emphasized that the ongoing investments would not only improve call quality and internet speed but also enhance the digital experience for businesses, students, and public institutions in both urban and rural communities. According to him, MTN’s mission to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world hinges on robust infrastructure capable of supporting the country’s rapid technological evolution.
Highlighting MTN’s technological innovation drive, Mr. Dogbe showcased some of the company’s recent digital solutions under its “DigiFest Initiative,” which aims to empower customers and promote digital inclusion. Among them were the MTN DigiFest platform, designed to showcase emerging technology solutions, and the MoMo Business App, created to support small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) with safe and efficient financial tools for daily transactions.
He also unveiled one of MTN’s most groundbreaking innovations — Abena.ai, Ghana’s first multilingual artificial intelligence voice assistant, which supports communication in major local languages including Twi, Ewe, Hausa, Ga, Dagbani, and English. The innovation, he said, reflects MTN’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that more Ghanaians can comfortably access digital services regardless of linguistic or educational barriers.
Touching on governance, Mr. Dogbe assured participants that MTN upholds strong transparency, gender inclusivity, and ethical data protection standards that align with international best practices. He noted that the company continues to prioritize responsible leadership, sustainability, and social impact in all operational regions.
Madam Efua Falconer, Corporate Communications Manager at MTN Ghana, commended the people of the Upper West Region for their consistent support throughout the company’s 15-year presence in the region. She said MTN’s stakeholder forums — being held across twelve regions and expected to cover all sixteen — are designed to create open spaces for dialogue, feedback, and collaborative problem-solving.
“Our goal is to maintain an open relationship with our customers and stakeholders, ensuring that the services we provide remain relevant, efficient, and reflective of the needs of the communities we serve,” Madam Falconer stated.
The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwanaa, applauded MTN Ghana for its sustained investment in digital connectivity and corporate social responsibility initiatives. He, however, appealed to the company to address the growing congestion at its Wa customer service centre by establishing additional satellite service points within the municipality to ease pressure and enhance customer satisfaction.
Representatives from community radio stations and local media also expressed appreciation for MTN’s ongoing engagement but urged stronger collaboration between the company and local broadcasters. They called on MTN to consider developing more localized content in indigenous languages to improve community outreach and ensure that digital literacy extends to every corner of the region.
The interactive session concluded with renewed optimism among participants about the future of digital access in the Upper West Region. Many described MTN’s investment as a major step toward reducing the digital divide and supporting socio-economic progress through improved communication services.
As MTN Ghana continues its nationwide stakeholder engagements, the company remains firm in its resolve to deliver reliable, affordable, and inclusive connectivity to every Ghanaian. With the GH¢240 million investment and the upcoming 5G rollout, MTN aims to solidify its position as a leader in driving Ghana’s digital transformation and ensuring that the benefits of technology reach every community — from urban centres to remote rural towns.
