MTN Ghana Sweeps Top Honours at 2025 PMEA, Named Project Management Office of the Year

MTN Ghana has once again stamped its authority as a trailblazer in project excellence by clinching four prestigious awards at the 2025 Project Management Excellence Awards (PMEA), including the coveted “Project Management Office (PMO) of the Year” award. The awards ceremony, organized by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana, was held at the Aqua Safari Resort in Ada following the successful conclusion of the 2025 National Project Management Conference (NPMC).
The recognition is a significant milestone for MTN Ghana, reaffirming the company’s leadership in project delivery, digital transformation, and innovation within the telecommunications sector. The awards also highlight MTN Ghana’s commitment to aligning project execution with strategic business goals.
MTN Ghana received the following accolades at the event:
- PMO of the Year – MTN Ghana Project Management Office
- Telecom Company Project of the Year – NextGen MoMo App
- Project Manager of the Year – 1st Runner-Up – Selorm Kove
- Project of the Year – 2nd Runner-Up – The Massive-MIMO Technology Project
The company’s Project Management Office (PMO) was lauded for its exceptional ability to drive value creation through well-aligned and strategically prioritized projects. MTN Ghana’s PMO achieved all performance targets by ensuring timely execution, strong monitoring, and impactful stakeholder engagement. The recognition as PMO of the Year affirms the company’s commitment to excellence, results, and a culture of continuous improvement.

The standout project that earned MTN Ghana the “Telecom Company Project of the Year” title was the revolutionary NextGen MoMo App. This state-of-the-art mobile financial services platform is a key pillar of MTN’s digital strategy. It supports MTN’s four-pronged technology vision—Platforms, Ecosystems & Services; Agile Operating Model; Connectivity & Monetization of Infrastructure; and Experience: Second to None (PACE).

The NextGen MoMo App features a user-friendly interface, biometric security, QR code payments, phonebook-based transfers, utility bill settlements, and digital lending options. It has significantly elevated user experience, increased engagement, and positioned MoMo as an integrated financial platform rather than just a transaction tool. The success of this app underscores MTN Ghana’s leadership in fintech and digital innovation in Africa.

In the individual honours category, Selorm Kove emerged as the 1st Runner-Up for Project Manager of the Year. He was praised for his exemplary leadership and data-driven management style. Selorm successfully spearheaded several Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MiMO) projects, introducing agile methodologies that enhanced project speed and predictability. He also developed a performance tracker that helped streamline operations by identifying potential delays and deploying quick interventions, thereby improving stakeholder coordination and overall efficiency.
Another notable project—the Massive-MIMO Technology Project—earned MTN Ghana the 2nd Runner-Up for Project of the Year. This initiative upgraded 4G infrastructure across ten regions, including Greater Accra and Ashanti, dramatically boosting network capacity and internet speeds—up to eight times faster in high-demand zones. Impressively, the enhancement was achieved with minimal hardware changes and no need for new site construction. This project is central to MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy, which aims to modernize infrastructure and deliver a superior customer experience.
Receiving the awards on behalf of MTN Ghana was Emmanuel Afutu, Senior Manager for Base Station Subsystems Implementation. He expressed gratitude to the PMI Ghana Chapter and dedicated the awards to the hardworking project teams who continue to push the boundaries of excellence in the telecom space.
William Tetteh, Chief Transformation Officer at MTN Ghana, also commended the company’s project management team for their discipline, innovation, and synergy. He highlighted that the PMO’s success is rooted in a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning. Tetteh further emphasized the importance of robust risk management, interdepartmental cohesion, and stakeholder involvement in executing projects that drive real business value.

The 2025 National Project Management Conference and PMEA were held under the theme: “Innovating for Prosperity: How Project Management Will Shape Ghana’s Economic Future.” The conference brought together industry leaders, project managers, academics, and policymakers to explore the critical role of innovation-driven project management in national development.
MTN Ghana’s multiple recognitions at this year’s PMEA not only demonstrate the company’s strategic direction but also set a new benchmark for excellence in project delivery and digital transformation in Ghana and beyond.
