MTN Ghana Strengthens Stakeholder Relations in Upper West with Regional Engagement Forum

MTN Ghana has reinforced its commitment to deepening stakeholder relations and advancing digital connectivity in the Upper West Region through a comprehensive regional engagement forum held in Wa on October 21, 2025. The forum brought together community leaders, partner institutions, government officials, media practitioners, and loyal customers as part of MTN’s nationwide stakeholder engagement drive aimed at promoting transparent communication and collaborative development.

The event created an interactive platform for discussing MTN’s ongoing investments in digital infrastructure, its technological innovations, and the company’s broader social impact initiatives across the country. It also allowed stakeholders to provide direct feedback to the company on service delivery, customer experience, and local community needs.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Joseph Dogbe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer of Scancom PLC (operators of MTN Ghana), reaffirmed the company’s dedication to bridging the digital divide and fostering inclusive connectivity in northern Ghana. He disclosed that MTN has invested more than GH¢1 billion over the past five years in improving digital infrastructure nationwide, with a particular focus on expanding rural connectivity and upgrading network resilience.

“For 2025 alone, we have committed GH¢240 million to expand our fibre optic coverage, strengthen our 4G network, and prepare the foundation for a seamless nationwide 5G rollout,” Mr. Dogbe stated. He emphasized that reliable digital infrastructure is a key driver of economic transformation, especially in regions like Upper West, where improved internet access can significantly enhance education, business operations, and access to essential digital services.

He further highlighted MTN’s ongoing technological innovations under its month-long “DigiFest” initiative, which seeks to empower customers and businesses through digital literacy and innovation. Among the notable innovations showcased were the MTN DigiFest platform, designed to promote emerging digital solutions, and the MoMo Business App, a comprehensive financial management tool created to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in conducting secure and efficient transactions.

Mr. Dogbe also introduced Abena.ai, Ghana’s first multilingual AI voice assistant, which represents a major leap in MTN’s commitment to accessibility and cultural inclusion. The artificial intelligence system supports major local languages including Twi, Ewe, Hausa, Ga, Dagbani, and English — making it easier for Ghanaians from diverse linguistic backgrounds to interact with digital services.

On matters of governance and ethics, Mr. Dogbe reiterated MTN’s adherence to the highest standards of transparency, data privacy, and inclusivity. He noted that the company remains steadfast in promoting gender equality in leadership, environmental sustainability, and responsible corporate practices aligned with global digital compliance norms.

Madam Efua Falconer, Corporate Communications Manager at MTN Ghana, also addressed the gathering, reflecting on the company’s 15-year operational journey in the Upper West Region. She commended the community for its continued trust and partnership, which she said has been instrumental in shaping MTN’s success and service improvement strategies.

“This forum in Wa forms part of MTN’s series of engagements being held across twelve regions of Ghana, with plans to extend nationwide. It is our belief that open dialogue with stakeholders is key to ensuring that our services remain responsive to the evolving needs of the people we serve,” Madam Falconer stated.

The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwanaa, praised MTN for its substantial contribution to the region’s digital and socio-economic development. He however appealed to the company to address customer congestion challenges at its Wa service centre by establishing satellite customer service points in other communities to improve accessibility and efficiency.

Representatives from the local media, particularly community radio stations, also lauded MTN for its engagement efforts but urged the company to strengthen collaboration with local broadcasters. They encouraged MTN to consider producing more content in indigenous languages and providing technical or financial support to rural media houses to help drive digital awareness at the grassroots level.

The forum concluded with an open dialogue session, where participants expressed appreciation for MTN’s commitment to listening and responding to the concerns of its customers and partners.

MTN Ghana’s stakeholder engagement forums, which have already been held in several regions including Ashanti, Bono, and Northern, continue to serve as an essential platform for fostering trust, accountability, and shared growth. Through these interactions, the company reaffirms its mission of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world while ensuring that every Ghanaian benefits from the country’s digital transformation journey.
