MTN Ghana Hosts Cybersecurity Awareness Forum, Urges Vigilance in Digital Age

MTN Ghana has underscored the importance of digital safety and vigilance in today’s technology-driven world through a Cybersecurity Awareness Forum organized for staff in the Ashanti Region. The event, held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the company’s Ashanti Regional Office in Kaase, Kumasi, formed part of MTN’s annual Global Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign aimed at strengthening internal capacity and promoting responsible digital practices among employees.

Themed “Securing Our Digital Future,” the forum brought together staff from the Northern Business District to engage in deep discussions on the growing threats of cybercrime and the measures necessary to safeguard personal and corporate information in the digital space.

The event featured an expert panel made up of senior MTN Ghana executives, including Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng, Senior Manager, Retail Experience – Northern Business District; Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager, Enterprise Information Security and Governance – MTN Ghana; and Simon Amoh, Senior Manager – Northern Business District.

The panelists educated participants on a wide range of cybersecurity topics such as social engineering tactics, phishing, data breaches, identity theft, online scams, and responsible digital behavior. The discussions centered on how individuals and organizations can prevent cyberattacks through awareness, proactive habits, and adherence to security protocols.

In her address to journalists after the session, Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager for Enterprise Information Security and Governance, emphasized that cybersecurity has become a necessity rather than an option in today’s connected world.

“Cybersecurity is no longer optional—it’s essential,” she stated. “We live in an age where technology touches every aspect of our lives—from communication to business and education. Unfortunately, this also means cybercriminals have more opportunities to exploit. Awareness and vigilance are the first lines of defense.”

Hanson-Kotei explained that MTN Ghana’s cybersecurity awareness efforts are designed not only to educate staff but also to create a culture of security consciousness that extends beyond the company’s operations. She highlighted that MTN Ghana has rolled out cybersecurity education programs in senior high schools across both urban and rural communities as part of its long-term commitment to promoting safe digital practices nationwide.

“These outreach programs are helping young people understand the risks of the digital world, how to protect their privacy, and how their online behavior can affect them in the future,” she said. “We are shaping a generation that is both tech-savvy and cyber-smart.”

She further called on employees and the general public to be cautious when engaging online, particularly in handling emails, passwords, and personal data.

“Cyberattacks often start with simple mistakes—clicking a suspicious link, sharing sensitive information, or using weak passwords,” she cautioned. “By being vigilant and adopting safe online habits, everyone can play a role in making the digital world safer.”

Simon Amoh, Senior Manager for the Northern Business District, commended the active participation of staff, noting that their engagement reflects a shared understanding of MTN Ghana’s mission to safeguard its digital ecosystem.

He added that cybersecurity is a collective responsibility that requires consistent education, cooperation, and alertness. “Every employee is a vital link in our defense chain,” he said. “We must continue learning, practicing, and sharing cybersecurity knowledge both within the company and in our communities.”

Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng also highlighted the importance of integrating cybersecurity into MTN Ghana’s customer experience strategy, explaining that protecting customer data and ensuring trust remain key priorities for the company.

The forum, which combined presentations, interactive sessions, and practical demonstrations, provided participants with real-world examples of cyber threats and best practices for preventing them. Staff members expressed appreciation for the training, describing it as eye-opening and timely, given the increasing number of online scams and data breaches worldwide.

Through such initiatives, MTN Ghana continues to lead in digital safety and cybersecurity advocacy, reinforcing its reputation as a responsible corporate organization committed to protecting both its employees and customers.

The company’s continuous investment in digital education, awareness campaigns, and system security innovations demonstrates its unwavering dedication to ensuring that Ghanaians can navigate the digital world safely, securely, and confidently.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, MTN Ghana’s message remains clear—awareness, vigilance, and responsibility are key to securing our digital future.
