MTN Ghana Empowers Staff with Digital Safety Skills at Cybersecurity Forum in Kaase

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its strong commitment to building a culture of cybersecurity awareness and digital responsibility among its employees through an engaging and insightful Cybersecurity Awareness Forum held in Kumasi.
The event, which took place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the company’s Ashanti Regional Office in Kaase, was organized by MTN Ghana’s Northern Business District as part of the company’s annual Global Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign. The initiative forms a key component of MTN’s broader mission to protect its digital ecosystem, enhance staff readiness, and promote responsible online behavior in the face of rising global cyber threats.

The forum, themed “Securing Our Digital Future,” brought together employees from across the Ashanti Region to learn practical ways of safeguarding themselves, the organization, and their customers from cyber risks. Participants were taken through key topics such as social engineering, data protection, online scams, phishing, and safe digital practices.

A panel of distinguished MTN executives led the session, including Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng, Senior Manager, Retail Experience – Northern Business District; Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager, Enterprise Information Security and Governance – MTN Ghana; and Simon Amoh, Senior Manager – Northern Business District.
The panelists delivered practical insights into how cybercriminals exploit human error and weak security habits to launch attacks, urging staff to remain vigilant and adopt a proactive approach to cybersecurity both at work and in their personal lives.

Speaking to journalists after the forum, Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager for Enterprise Information Security and Governance, emphasized that cybersecurity has become a crucial element of modern life and business continuity, calling for a collective effort to stay ahead of evolving digital threats.
“Cybersecurity is no longer optional—it’s essential,” she stressed. “We live in a digital age where every transaction, interaction, and engagement is connected online. As cyber threats grow more complex, awareness and preventive action are the best defenses we have. We must all take responsibility for protecting our digital environments.”

Hanson-Kotei explained that the staff training in Kumasi was part of MTN Ghana’s continuous efforts to strengthen internal cybersecurity capacity. She added that MTN’s approach goes beyond employee awareness, extending to public outreach programs, particularly in senior high schools across both rural and urban areas.
“These school-based campaigns aim to educate students on how to use digital tools safely, understand online risks, and protect their personal data,” she said. “Young people are the most active users of technology, and they must be equipped with the right knowledge to make smart choices online. We are committed to raising a generation that is digitally empowered yet security-conscious.”

She also urged MTN employees and the general public to take cybersecurity personally, noting that small actions such as verifying links before clicking, using strong passwords, and avoiding sharing sensitive information online can prevent significant data breaches and financial loss.
“Cybersecurity begins with you,” she emphasized. “Every one of us has a role to play in keeping our digital environment safe. Let’s all act as ambassadors of cybersecurity at home, at work, and in our communities.”
Simon Amoh, Senior Manager for the Northern Business District, praised staff participation in the forum, describing the event as timely and transformative. He noted that as the digital landscape expands, organizations must ensure their people are adequately equipped to protect themselves and their institutions from potential threats.

“This training reinforces MTN’s commitment to employee development and customer protection,” he said. “By empowering our staff with knowledge and tools, we are creating a stronger line of defense against cyberattacks and ensuring that MTN remains a trusted brand in Ghana’s digital space.”
The event was highly interactive, with participants engaging in practical demonstrations and discussions on real-life cyber incidents. Employees also shared personal experiences and learned how to identify and report suspicious online activities.
Through initiatives like this, MTN Ghana continues to set the pace in promoting cybersecurity awareness, digital literacy, and data protection among its workforce and the wider public. The company’s sustained investment in cybersecurity education reflects its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe, reliable, and secure digital environment for all.
By empowering its staff with essential digital safety skills, MTN Ghana is not only protecting its own systems but also contributing significantly to the broader national effort to combat cyber threats and strengthen Ghana’s digital resilience.
