MTN Ghana Empowers 12 Nyinahini Youth with Mobile Phone Repair Start-Up Tools under 2025 Y’ello Care Initiative

Twelve young men and women in Nyinahini, a community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, have received life-changing start-up tools from MTN Ghana after successfully completing a three-week intensive training program in mobile phone repairs.

The gesture forms part of the 2025 edition of MTN’s flagship employee volunteerism initiative, 21 Days of Y’ello Care, aimed at bridging the digital gap in underserved communities through practical skills and digital empowerment. This year’s campaign was held under the theme “Connecting at the Roots – Connecting Communities Through the Use of Digital Tools.”

The training program, which ran from June 1 to June 21, 2025, offered hands-on knowledge in a wide range of mobile phone repair techniques including screen replacement, IC fault fixing, charging port repairs, network fault diagnosis, iCloud bypass, SIM unlocking, FRP/Google lock removal, and other advanced phone servicing skills.

On Friday, June 20, 2025, officials from MTN Ghana’s Northern Business District visited the MTN Data Center in Nyinahini to officially present the start-up tools to the 12 beneficiaries. The package included multimeters, precision screwdrivers, and a variety of essential equipment needed to kick-start their own phone repair ventures.

Each of the trainees also received a certificate of completion, acknowledging their dedication and successful participation in the training.

Speaking at the short presentation ceremony, the Head of Technical for MTN’s Northern Business District, Mr. Charles Osei Akoto, congratulated the participants for their commitment and enthusiasm throughout the program. He encouraged them to put the knowledge and tools acquired to good use and continually strive to upgrade their skills.

“In an era where artificial intelligence and automation are shifting the job market, technical skills like phone repairs offer an alternative pathway to meaningful employment. Don’t stop here. Keep learning and growing,” he advised.

Mr. Osei Akoto emphasized that MTN’s Y’ello Care initiative is designed not only to empower individuals but to also catalyze community transformation by reducing digital exclusion and unemployment through sustainable interventions.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Peter Armah Bonsu expressed heartfelt appreciation to MTN Ghana for the opportunity and support. He described the program as a timely intervention that has equipped them with employable skills, especially in a community where job opportunities are scarce.

“Before this training, I had little knowledge of phone repairs. Today, I am confident in my ability to diagnose and fix various phone issues. We are deeply grateful to MTN and plead with them to extend this initiative to other communities who also need such opportunities,” he stated.

The presentation ceremony brought smiles and hope to many in the Nyinahini community, as parents and relatives of the trainees joined to witness the life-changing moment. With tools in hand and skills acquired, the 12 young men and women are now poised to establish their own businesses and contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

The Y’ello Care initiative, which has become a hallmark of MTN Ghana’s corporate social responsibility over the years, continues to touch lives across Ghana and beyond, offering thousands of young people the chance to break the cycle of unemployment and digital marginalization.
