MTN Ghana Crowned PMO of the Year at 2025 PMEA, Dominates with Four Awards

MTN Ghana has once again proven its dominance in the field of project management by emerging as the Project Management Office (PMO) of the Year at the prestigious 2025 Project Management Excellence Awards (PMEA), held at the serene Aqua Safari Resort in Ada. The award ceremony, organized by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana Chapter, followed the highly impactful National Project Management Conference (NPMC), under the theme “Innovating for Prosperity: How Project Management Will Shape Ghana’s Economic Future.”

The telecommunications giant did not only walk away with the PMO of the Year title but also won four major awards in total, solidifying its position as a beacon of excellence, innovation, and strategic project execution within the country’s corporate and technology landscape.

The full list of awards received by MTN Ghana includes:

  • PMO of the Year – MTN Ghana Project Management Office
  • Telecom Company Project of the Year – NextGen MoMo App
  • Project Manager of the Year (1st Runner-Up) – Selorm Kove
  • Project of the Year (2nd Runner-Up) – The Massive-MIMO Technology Project

At the heart of this year’s achievement is the MTN Ghana Project Management Office, recognized for its outstanding delivery of high-impact, strategically aligned projects that create measurable value. According to PMI Ghana, MTN’s PMO demonstrated excellence in portfolio governance, execution discipline, benefits realization, and a strong culture of performance tracking. The PMO met all its set targets and maintained robust alignment with business objectives, showcasing world-class standards in project delivery.

A highlight of the awards was MTN Ghana’s win for Telecom Company Project of the Year, awarded for the game-changing NextGen MoMo App. This project embodies MTN’s ambition to lead in fintech innovation. Designed to support all four pillars of MTN’s technology strategy—Platforms, Ecosystems & Services; Agile Operating Model; Connectivity & Monetization of Infrastructure; and Experience (PACE)—the app features biometric login, QR code payments, phonebook-based transfers, utility bill payments, and digital lending services. It has enhanced user experience significantly and redefined mobile money in Ghana, evolving it from a simple transaction tool into a full-fledged financial services platform.

Another individual who stood out during the ceremony was Selorm Kove, who was named 1st Runner-Up for Project Manager of the Year. Selorm’s leadership in the MiMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) projects was instrumental in improving execution speed and predictability. He introduced a data-driven performance tracking tool that enabled early detection of project delays and helped implement timely interventions. His methodology has not only streamlined MTN’s project execution but also reinforced the company’s reputation for dependable and agile delivery.

In addition, the Massive-MIMO Technology Project received the 2nd Runner-Up award for Project of the Year. This highly technical initiative involved the upgrade of 4G infrastructure in ten regions, including high-density urban areas in Greater Accra and Ashanti. The project boosted network capacity, improved download speeds by up to eight times, and significantly enhanced user experience—achieved without the need for new physical infrastructure. This aligns directly with MTN Ghana’s Ambition 2025 strategy focused on digital transformation and customer excellence.

Receiving the awards on behalf of MTN Ghana was Emmanuel Afutu, Senior Manager for Base Station Subsystems Implementation, who expressed appreciation to PMI Ghana for the honour and dedicated the awards to the entire MTN project management team. He praised their dedication, innovative mindset, and commitment to excellence, which continue to drive the company’s transformation journey.

Also speaking at the event, William Tetteh, Chief Transformation Officer of MTN Ghana, lauded the project teams for their synergy, resilience, and results-oriented culture. He emphasized that the company’s project management success stems from robust interdepartmental collaboration, proactive stakeholder engagement, and a shared drive for continuous improvement. He further stated that the awards are a reflection of MTN Ghana’s firm belief in using project management as a strategic tool for business transformation and economic impact.

The 2025 National Project Management Conference and PMEA drew participation from project management professionals, business leaders, policymakers, and academics across Ghana. The event aimed to demonstrate how structured and innovative project management can solve national challenges, improve infrastructure, and create economic value.

MTN Ghana’s multiple accolades at the 2025 PMEA not only celebrate its achievements but also set a gold standard for corporate project delivery in Ghana. The company continues to lead the way in using strategic project management to drive digital innovation, customer experience, and national development.
