MTN Ghana Champions Cyber Awareness With Staff Forum in Kumasi

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to building a secure and digitally resilient workforce through a staff Cybersecurity Awareness Forum held in Kumasi as part of its annual global cybersecurity awareness campaign.

The event, which took place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at MTN’s Ashanti Regional Office in Kaase, was organized by the company’s Northern Business District to educate employees on emerging cyber threats and equip them with practical skills to safeguard both corporate and personal digital environments.

Themed “Securing Our Digital Future,” the forum served as a key platform to highlight MTN’s ongoing efforts to promote responsible digital behavior, strengthen cybersecurity culture within the organization, and inspire proactive measures against cyberattacks.

The session featured a dynamic panel discussion led by three senior executives—Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng, Senior Manager for Retail Experience – Northern Business District; Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager for Enterprise Information Security and Governance – MTN Ghana; and Simon Amoh, Senior Manager for the Northern Business District.

The speakers took turns addressing critical topics including social engineering tactics, data protection, phishing scams, online fraud, and best digital safety practices, urging staff to remain vigilant in their daily online interactions.

Delivering a powerful keynote address, Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei emphasized that cybersecurity has become a non-negotiable priority in the modern digital era. She warned that cybercriminals are becoming more sophisticated and relentless, exploiting human weaknesses and technological loopholes to infiltrate systems and steal data.

“Cybersecurity is no longer optional—it’s essential,” Hanson-Kotei stressed. “Every individual who uses technology has a responsibility to protect their digital identity and data. Awareness, caution, and responsible behavior are our best weapons against cyber threats.”

She noted that the forum was part of MTN Ghana’s strategic initiatives to create a cyber-aware workforce that can identify and mitigate risks before they escalate into major security breaches. According to her, the campaign is not limited to staff alone but extends to schools and communities as part of MTN’s broader social responsibility to build a safer digital Ghana.

“Beyond our internal engagements, we have rolled out cybersecurity education programs in both rural and urban senior high schools,” she revealed. “These outreach initiatives are helping to sensitize students on the importance of digital safety, data privacy, and the long-term impact of their online behavior.”

Hanson-Kotei also urged staff and the general public to become ambassadors of cybersecurity within their circles, stressing that the digital ecosystem is only as strong as its weakest link.

“Let’s all take ownership of our digital safety,” she said. “Think before you click, verify before you share, and protect your personal and organizational data as if it were your most valuable asset.”

Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng, Senior Manager for Retail Experience – Northern Business District, commended MTN Ghana’s sustained investment in digital safety programs, describing the forum as a timely intervention in the face of increasing cybercrime incidents across Ghana and the globe.

“Our work environment and lifestyles are increasingly digital, which makes cybersecurity everyone’s business,” she remarked. “This forum has empowered our team to be more alert, responsible, and ready to defend against any cyber threat that may come our way.”

On his part, Simon Amoh, Senior Manager for the Northern Business District, expressed appreciation to the organizers and participants, emphasizing that the forum reflects MTN Ghana’s commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and digital protection.

“At MTN, we believe that awareness is the first step to defense,” he said. “By educating our workforce, we’re not only protecting company assets but also helping our staff stay safe in their personal digital lives.”

The event also featured interactive demonstrations and scenario-based learning activities that illustrated how cyberattacks occur and the best ways to detect and respond to them. Staff participants described the experience as eye-opening, practical, and empowering, noting that they gained valuable knowledge to help them act more responsibly online.

MTN Ghana continues to lead in cybersecurity advocacy through targeted awareness campaigns, staff capacity-building sessions, and nationwide outreach initiatives. The company’s proactive measures demonstrate its unwavering commitment to maintaining trust, protecting customer data, and building a digitally secure future for all Ghanaians.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, MTN Ghana’s message remains clear and urgent: Cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility, and awareness is the strongest shield against digital threats.
