“MTN Ghana Brings Smiles to Yendi Pupils with Lifesaving Uniform Donation Drive”

In a compassionate act of corporate responsibility, MTN Ghana has brought renewed hope and joy to pupils of Katinguli RC and Baale LA Primary Schools in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region by donating school uniforms to support their academic journey.

This donation forms part of MTN Ghana’s annual “21 Days of Y’ello Care” initiative — a flagship volunteerism program that encourages staff of the telecommunications giant to reach out and give back to deprived communities across the country. The theme for the 2025 edition, “Connecting at the Root, Connecting Communities Through the Use of Digital Tools,” emphasizes bridging the digital divide while addressing fundamental community needs.

Although the overarching campaign focuses on promoting digital inclusion, the donation of new school uniforms to children in rural Yendi has proven equally lifesaving for many families struggling with poverty. Several pupils at both schools had been attending classes in worn-out or oversized clothes, which affected their confidence and regular school attendance.

The arrival of MTN’s team was met with cheers and excitement as pupils queued to receive their brand-new uniforms. Teachers and parents beamed with gratitude, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.

Mr. Mohammed Bawa Ziblim, Headteacher of Katinguli RC Primary School, described the intervention as a major morale boost for both students and staff. “Most of our pupils come from very poor homes. Many of them have only one uniform, and for some, even that is in terrible condition. This gesture from MTN Ghana will not only help restore their dignity but will also motivate them to stay in school,” he stated.

Mr. Dauda Shani, Headteacher of Baale LA Primary, echoed the same sentiments and called for continued support from corporate Ghana. He revealed that while the uniforms were a blessing, the schools still grapple with dire infrastructure challenges. “Our pupils are learning under trees and temporary sheds. When it rains or the sun is too hot, teaching becomes impossible. We need classrooms urgently.”

A respected community elder, Mr. Uboi Baabe, joined the call for help. He thanked MTN Ghana for its intervention and urged other private companies to emulate the example. “Today, MTN Ghana has reminded us that education is a shared responsibility. These children are the future of Ghana, and they deserve more than learning under trees.”

Officials from MTN Ghana said the company remains committed to supporting education, especially in underserved areas. “Our donation here today may look like just uniforms, but it’s about more than clothing — it’s about giving these children a reason to smile, to feel seen, and to keep pursuing their dreams,” said one of the staff volunteers.

Since its launch in 2007, MTN’s “21 Days of Y’ello Care” program has transformed lives across Ghana through initiatives in education, health, and youth empowerment. This year’s uniform donation in Yendi adds to a long list of impactful activities, reaffirming the company’s commitment to being not just a network provider but a force for good in society.

As the pupils of Katinguli and Baale now attend school in dignity and with smiles on their faces, the larger community remains hopeful that this act of kindness will spark a wider conversation — and action — on improving the state of rural education in Ghana.
