The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, has projected that the future of Ghana’s telecommunications industry will be shaped by digital platforms, fintech services, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), rather than by connectivity alone.

Speaking in an interview on a radio station in Accra, Mr. Blewett explained that while robust networks remain the foundation of the telecom industry, the next wave of growth will come from the innovative platforms and solutions that ride on top of those networks. “The real growth in telecoms won’t just come from providing connectivity. It will come from the platforms, solutions and innovations built on top of those networks. Think about it—Facebook, WhatsApp and Uber, none of these would exist without the network. That’s where the future lies,” he emphasized.

He pointed out that AI and coding have become the engines of transformation for the sector, empowering innovators and businesses to develop products that improve efficiency, expand opportunities, and create value.

“The telecom sector will remain central to economic and social transformation because we provide the backbone that allows all other sectors to innovate and thrive,” he added.

Mr. Blewett reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s dedication to its Ambition 2025 strategy, which focuses on building leading digital platforms, strengthening fintech innovation, and promoting inclusive growth. According to him, MTN’s goal is not only to generate profit but also to deliver social and economic impact.

“At MTN, we’re not just chasing profits, we are chasing impact. Our goal is to create opportunities, to enable young people, businesses, and communities to thrive in a digital economy,” he stated.

Industry experts note that Ghana’s fast-growing digital economy has created a fertile environment for fintech solutions and platform-driven services. Telecom operators such as MTN, they argue, are uniquely positioned to play a catalytic role in enabling financial inclusion, digital commerce, e-learning, health solutions, and agriculture technologies.

Mr. Blewett stressed that as mobile penetration deepens and internet access expands, MTN Ghana will continue to invest in digital platforms and innovative technologies that unlock opportunities for individuals, entrepreneurs, and entire communities.
